Guys,

I have a 2002 400ex with a white brothers e-series, uni foam filter with lid on, choke removed, 42 pilot, 152 main, needle on 3rd notch, and the sparks timing advance key. ITP Wheels, Rar2 tires like new.

I have stock bore * I think, bought it used *
800 Feet elevation.
Mostly Woods and trails, I rarely get past 3rd gear. I LOVE riding wheelies and doing small jumps ( about 3 to 6 feet of air )

What is my next step in getting more low end or an all around better quad?

* SUSPENSION *
450R Shocks?
Works Shocks?
or Elka Recreational Series?

* CONTROL *
New handlebars to replace the stockers? what brand and what all do I have to change to put oversized bars on?

Remove the parking brake and put new clutch perch on? gets rid of a little weight I guess but the fact that it doesnt work anyway should answer that one for me.

* do a 416 kit with a stage one or two *

Is is worth it do to a big bore kit? I know that should be obvious but my quad has good power, not sure of compression since I have not done a leakdown test but it seems to run great.

I know alot of that is preference but if it was you doing it what would be the order you would do these things in?

The easiest and cheapest route would be to drop a tooth on your front sprocket. It'll give a very nice boost on the low end, but take a little away (like 3-5mph) from the top end.

Agreed^^^^. The elkas would probably be the best but the works are good shocks too. The 450r and works are probably about the same once they are revalved. I am not sure. Get rid of the stock perch ir you want. The 416 is a great addition but will require a bit more work and money. i like mine with the stage 1 it makes good low and mid power for wheelies and trails. It runs good on a track too. I would do the susp. first but that is my opinion. I dont have the money so I did the small motor work first. The susp. will make it ride better on the trails and allow you to go faster and stay in control. Steve

if you want better low end power do a 416 with a stage 1 hc and drop a tooth on the front. if i were you i'd get 450r shocks and get them revalved, they would be better than the elka recreatinal shocks. as afr as the fat bars all you would have to change is the bars and the clamps.

I had a line on some 450R shocks for 50 bucks but I have not talked to the guy that had them in a few days so hopefully he still has them

Definitly get those shocks. For trails maybe get an anti vibe stem with some T2 or pro taper bars, if you want to go all out get the Fasst bars. The parking break is a semi inexpensive mod if you get an ez pull perch it will help on the fatigue and get rid of a very small amount of weight. The bore isnt really necessary for what your doing. I would maybe think of going with a 450R carb and then maybe the stage 1 cam. A buddy of mine has an 02' ex with a stage 1 hot cam and then similar setup to yours and his runs really strong good for trails and its runs well in the dunes also.

not sure on the motor kit as i can only run a stock 400cc motor in my class, but i would suggest the HLS shocks by GT Thunder. I really like mine and have heard very few complaints about them.
