The Prarie would beat in top end and I think it will also beat you out of the hole.

he is right you will get killed. my friend raced one on the sand on his stock 02 400ex and it was a close race until the end and then the praire started beating it.

How much difference is a 2000 polaris sportsmen 500 from a 650, i raced one of them and i pulled out ahead of him and then he caught up and we were side by side until we ran out of room but i expect he would pass me on top end.

HONDA ARE YOU LISTENING!!!!!!!

Your high performance sport quad is getting beat by 800lb automatic 4x4 utility!!! It saddens me to think that I might not be able to beat a utility quad w/ racks for crying out loud. Honda get that Cr quad out or on to something else because your way behind.

there is alot of diference for starters the 650 is a twin cylinder so that helps out alot and then the 150 cs helps and the sports man has irs and the 650m has a solid rear axel thats just a few of the things that set them apart

Hear say, hear say. I had a 400EX and a 650P at the same time. Near neck and neck until high forth on the 400EX then the EX takes the flag.

My old self?

My old self would have cursed and MF'd the morons for making such stupid comments about a 650P based solely on hear say and not actual seat time.:D

Not likely... All he has to do is point and thumb it. You are the one that needs the right clutch/throttle combo to get him out of the hole...

well, you will be smoked, it may weigh 2 x's as much but i bet its got more than twice as much hp. not too mention its 4 wheel drive with a differential lock.

I have a prairie 650, and just picked up a 400ex, I'm curious to race them. I think I'll be riding the 400EX about 80% of the time!

My buddy has a 650 praire so I will race him when I get the chance and come back then. Mine and his has some clutch and ignition mods, his has exhaust and jetting also. But both our prairies top speed is about 65-67mph. This changes alot though depending on conditions due to the CVT.

So far my observations:
The 400ex is way funner to ride!
The prairie is a torque monster, but with the extra 300lbs its carrying doesn't feel as fun or exciting as the 400, its like riding a couch with a V-twin.

When I ride them both hard, I actually get more sore from riding the prairie then the EX. Even though the prairie rides softer, the bulk and weight of the machine takes YOU for a ride and I'm only 5'9" 200lbs.

The Prairie doesn't have twice the power, not to the ground anyway, due to its CVT and shaft drive. Its only putting high 30's HP to the ground so VS. the what 28HP stock of the EX, its not a big deal, seat of the pants anyway. The power to weight of the EX blows the prairie out of the water, about 40% better!
