Ok so here is the question, I got the dynojet kit for my bike, with all these difrent numbers out there I am trying to clarify what number I need to be running I have the k&n, fmf exhaust, sparks timing key, choke removed, air lid off, my elevation is under 1000 feet, as per dynojet I should be running a 170 main and 3 1/2 turns out, I have a 42 pilot. This thing dont run that great to me, it has a hard time pulling the wheels off the ground. So what number main should I be at,what needle spot, how many turns on a/f screw. Remember I have dynojet numbers. as this guide below says I should be running a 140,142 if you go by keihin numbers as to what everybody else with the same mods is running. Thanks for the help

I HATE the Dynojunk kits, I have never had luck with them myself.

if it is running bad you need to run it and do a plug check to see whats up, if it is boggy it is probably lean and if it smokes its rich, the pilot jet being a 42 is what I run with no choke and it works great but the main is what you need to worry about and the needle position.

Drop that dynojunk kit and get a factory needle on the 3rd notch, keep the 42 pilot, and get a 160 main jet, that is where I would start

Is that 160 a dynojet number or a keihin number. as to how it was running I did a plug check and it was dry, black and sooty, which tells me rich or poor compression, poor spark

OH just a stock jet not dynojunk, I know there are some guys out there that like the dynajet kits but I like to fine tune mine with keihin jets, I dont buy a kit I just buy a few pilots in 38,40.42, and 45

and mains in 140-165 or so, that way you can switch out for weather and elevation and it allows you to really test things until you get it right.

Good luck, its frustrating but you will get it.

ok newrider08, so I should get kehin jets from 148 to 165 on main, 40 pilot. I already have the 38, and I dont plan on riding anywhere that I would need a 45 pilot. so where should the a/f screw be set and what setting on the needle. I would guess #3 on needle and 2 1/2 on a/f. I am new to the 4 strokes but i can tune the crud out of a 2 stroke, they are the same in some regards I guess. I notice alot of people with the same mods runs a 152 or 155 main so that is where I will start. but as my 400 sits now my blaster would smoke it all day long, that is the problem:cool:

yeah I am fairly new to the 4 strokes myself and have done alot of research and tuning trying to get the most out of mine, I actually just put in the sparks timing key but before that install I was spot on with air lid on, choke removed, white brothers e series exhaust, and uni filter. I was running a 42 pilot and a 152 main but im thinking I will have to bump the main up to 155 after the sparks key.

I will have to wait and see, I am going to get an airbox lid with a pre filter so that may push me up over 160 on Mail jet though

When my machine was stock with my t-4 I had a 138 dj with the f/a at 3 turns and the needle at 3rd position from top. i am at about 600' i think. It was perfect golden brown. i would start with a 155 dj with your mods and do a plug check. the stage 2 is way too rich in my opinion for any stock application. If it was sooty black it is too rich. Take it or leave it and read the 400ex tuning thing there are tons on there. steve
