I am putting my 416 together this weekend, and am putting a WB rev box on mine, so i hope it works! I can give you feedback in a couple of days hopefully. And i only paid 40 for mine, so its probably worth it for me.

there are many different types of aftermarket CDI's.
some will change the spark curve and bump up the rev limiter.
some will only bump the rev limiter.
you also have some that are programmable.

some are really good units and some are junk.

i dont like using the xr250 or the xr400 cdi's

White brother made a real good CDI, it changed the spark curve and added 1200 rpm to the rev limiter.
the DYNA FS CDI is one of the best on the market. it has 4 selectable spark curves, outputs for a tach and a shift light. it is also programable. you can change all the spark curves with a computer and the right program. It is one of the most expensive one's out there.
If you put one on a 416 you will see a difference on the top end.

i get them for $299.
ebay may be cheaper, but when it comes to things like this i tend to buy retail for the warranty
