Does anybody have an idea of about how much it would cost to have a shop change out the mechanical seal/oil seal on my 04 kfx400? I have developed a severe leak with the waterpump and was wondering if it would be worth my time to take it to a shop or mess with it in my garage.
Parts/Labor total?

Also, what is the common cost to have valves adjusted?

Thanks for any info.

Dan.

most shops charge between 40 and 60 hr.so u decide.mechanical seal is one of the easiest jobs u can do yourself.not downing on the bike(cause i too ride a 400),but if your gonna own it you better get used to working on it!

Thanks for the advice ^
I called the shop yesterday to check on the status - he told me he had ordered new bearings, oil seal, mechanical seal, impeller (due to damaged shaft) O-ring gaskets and Clutch cover gasket.

Total parts around $75 my estimate. He had told me it would be about 2 hrs labor time total when i dropped it off.

Kicking myself for not doing it myself now. I ordered the Clymers manual and will be doing everything myself from now on.

Going to be a $200 water pump rebuild - expensive lesson learned.

ps. anybody on here live near Waterford, NY?

Holy hell, did I say $200...It came out to $300 :eek2:

Replaced all waterpump internals, Oil Filter/Oil change, Coolant Flush/refill. + Labor at $60/hr.

never again! I will chalk it up to Newb Tax! :ermm:

the clymers manuals are worthless. You need to buy a service manual, I found on line for 20.00 put it on a flash drive and use it on my laptop.
