I sold my three wheeler and have about $900 to spend on my 400ex, the front wheels were turned around backwards when I got it and I am pretty sure it has an extended back axle not sure how much though? heres a old pic of the back just to give yall an idea of axle width
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e343/f150rider/DSCN1206.jpg

what I do know is with the front wheels turned around backwards they line up with the back tires pretty close in terms of width, I would like to turn the front wheels around like they`re supposed to be and put some extended a-arms and new shocks on! I use it to jump small jumps around the house and occasionally at a track.

What width a-arms do I need +1? +2? Full Flight or Wicked a-arms? remember budget here lol

What about new Works shocks? any difference over stock shocks?

Thanks For any Help!
Sam

Check and see if there are spacers on the axle (outer rim side because I dont see any in the pics on the inner side but its hard to see from the angle of the pic) This might help you figure out what width you can obtain with the axle if its aftermarket

Then, take a tape to it, figure out how wide you are or want to be and that should narrow down your choices for upfront intead of taking a geuss.

Burgard has about the best for the price ($425 shipped or so) and there are also TONS of used arms on the market.

My suggestion would be to buy a set of used arms and re-valved stock 450r shocks....and a hunch would be +2 arms

Thanks Pappy!! I will do just that, I`m by no mean a expert on these machines but I`m learning slowly thanks to everyone on here!!!

Im no expert either, I just wouldnt want you to buy +2 arms and end up having a stock axle that someone polished on:p

you`ve got that right! Do I need to measure the whole length of the axle with the wheels off? will this tell me if its a aftermarket/extended axle?

Your rear axle looks a lot like my G-Force, and judging by your pic it looks like you have at least the big spacer on the inside. They are adjustable up to 4" wider than stock. (If thats what it is) Look on the inside and see if youhave two spacers ( 1" and 1/4") or just the 1"

The easiest way to check is to see if there are any spacers on either side of the rear hub. If there are none, then I would break out the tape and measure it. The stock axle uses no spacers, and aftermarket adjustable axles have spacers.

Okay that makes sense! I will look at it when I get off work and let yall know what I`ve found. Thanks again for all the Help!!

ok here is a pic of the axle without the wheels on it, I did a search and someone said the stock 400ex axle length is 32 3/4" long and mine measures 38 1/2" long can someone tell me if this is right? and also there was 1" spacers on both sides of the wheels on the inside and 1/4" spacers so according to what yall said this would be a aftermarket axle?

heres some more measurments

rear tires outside to outside with 1/4" spacers is 48 1/2" aprox.

rear tires with 1/4" and 1" spacers is 50 1/2" aprox.

front tires outside to outside turned the right way are 42 1/2" aprox.

48.5" - 42.5"= 6" so the front is aprox. 6" narrower than the back and 8" narrower with the 1" spacers. I hope I`m doing the math right on this lol! so +2 a-arms adds 4" and +3 a-arms adds 6" to the front overall measurment is this right?

i think it would be a safe bet to go with houser +1 a-arms, they are extremely durable and not overly expensive like other ones made by burgard cycles and axis, plus they look good, but yeah your rear axel is deffinetly spaced about 2", looks exactly like mine but you have wider spacers in

thanks bud! so +1 will make the whole front 2" wider is this right? btw nice quad you`ve got it looks almost identical to mine!

Get +2's I have a g-force axel with the 1 inch spacers on the inside and my Houser +2's are dang near dead even as far as width goes

yup, they dont have to be exact but if thats what your going for then it should be the same. and thanx, i love your frame, and mine is looking alil better now but yours is deff newer, nicer and less beaten upp

would the +2 work with 450r shocks? and what is the advantage of Houser over Burgard?

this looks like the cheapest place for housers

The Housers are heavier duty than the Burgards. They have FRAP-style lower balljoints which lock into a slot in the a-arm tubing....the metal is built around the balljoint (the Burgards appear to have conventional lowers which are prone to snapping). Hard to explain, but look at the pics and compare. Conventional lower balljoints are more like a bolt just sticking out of a hole at the end of the a-arm. The Housers are also gusseted (reinforced) at the shock mounts, the Burgards do not appear to be. The Burgards will work for ya, but if you want to do it right the first time spend a little extra for the Housers.

You can get the 450R shocks revalved to work with +2 extended arms. This is highly recommended so the shocks can be set up for your weight, machine, and riding style.

your right I would rather spend alittle extra and do it right the first time! the fellow who had this quad before me just halfway did everything on here, it seems like I`m still finding little stuff that is backwards or just not the way it should be. So you`all think Houser +2 is the way to go because I`m fixin to order some!!! I am planning on getting the 450r shocks setup for my weight, kinda off topic but can I just get them revalved and leave the springs along?

Houser's aren't the cheapest arms out there, but they hold up very well. I'd recommend them to anyone.

Usually the valving and spring setup go hand in hand. For a heavier rider you go with heavier rated springs and vice versa. I'm no shock builder, but that's how it has been with aftermarket shocks i've had in the past.
