Hey guys just had a question for you guys, I will list my current setup and if you guys could let me know some cheap or free mods I can do I would really appreciate it.

2002 400EX
Stock Bore ( I think, bought it used )
Choke removed
42 pilot 152 main
uni foam filter, cleaned and oiled
White Bros E-Series
New spark plug
outerwear over snorkel end
Airlid still on.

This is what I have done in the last week,

Ordered Sparks Timing Advance Key ( will be in on thursday)

Removed Choke

Jetted 42 pilot

jetted 152 main, went with a 155 first and it was too rich.

I removed my air lid yesterday and tried it with the 152 main it was too lean as it would run without popping but had no power, it was pretty loud under the seat area too, I know this is the intake noise but is it usually VERY loud? Also what do you recommend for jetting to remove my airlid with my current setup or is just drilling holes and putting pre filters in the holes a better option?

I also did a rebuild kit with all the moving parts and gaskets this week, the parts in the carb were not worn excessively but definitely showed some wear and tear, if you have not rebuilt yours you should get a repair manual and rebuild that sucker, it was very easy and I found that most of my gaskets and o-rings were either flat or cracked which can result in air leaks or bad performance, the rebuild kit was from the dealer and it was 19 bucks out the door

Ok guys whats your ideas for cheap or free mods that I have not yet thought of?

replace the spark plug boot resistor with a bolt or wire.

how does that help and how do you put a bolt on it?

I believe that K&N makes a powerlid for your bike. Its just a huge airfilter that takes place of your airbox lid and it already had the prefilter fabric on it so no water gets in. I don't know why more people don't use this. I think its stupid to run with no airbox lid. why take the chance when there is a product that does the same thing only safer?

yeah I have seen those air lids and actually thought of either buying that or an aluminum lid with the same material filter in it

my noise out of my box is quite loud. I would suggest looking into an EHS lid too. I just bought one and it has worked great for me so far, if you are worried about water and sand. otherwise suspension work looks to be next along with a stage 1 hotcam. steve

oh the bolt in the spark plug cap is supposed to make more spark. there is a post about it probably 5 pages into the forum. Steve

Newrider08,
Here is the lid I use. Very easy to install and very clean looking.
Just remember that this lid, the k&n and others are not "waterproof" they will allow a little moisture in if you are in deep or it gets hit with a pressure washer.

and it does come with the drycharger fabric to cover the powerlid it's just not shown here.

like BIGREDISB says it won't repel water if it is fully submerged or blown in with pressure but it stops splashes and dust and its much better than having your lid off.
