well super fine steelwhool and gas will take the scratches out but your plastics will never be as shiny as they once were. so i wouldnt suggest this unless they are really bad.

I saw a MOTHERS head light buffing kit at the AUTO PARTS store a few weeks ago and I was thinking that it might work. I heard of using a HEAT GUN, but no one ever follows up with pics or results.

Worth a shot. Did it on my raptor 660 years ago and helped out a bit. Just make sure there's no dirt, water, or any type of residue left on the plastics or it will leave pock marks.

Be careful not to over heat the plastics either.

if they are light scratches try floor wax i use and it seems to work decent.and it makes your bike easy to clean.i found mop and glow works the best.my plastic is gray so it dont show scratches to bad.but every time i ride i was the bike and put a fresh coat on.just wipe it on with a soft rag and let it dry.

floor wax? whats the difference in that and regular wax? i tried to wax it today with turtle wax and mothers and ended up getting wax caked up in the cracks that sucked getting out

Not sure what the diffrence is between the two.The only thing i can think of is floor wax is like water unlike most wax which is like a paste. You can use floor wax on your wood floor with out leaving white markes.Thats what got me using it.As far as using heat to get them out.I have never heard of thet.I use a heat gun to take out white stress markes.Just dont heat up your plastic to much it dont take much to melt it.

this is what all I have done to remove the scraches on yellow honda plastics:
*first I sanded down the deep scraches with 80 grit
*next I used 120
* followed up with 200
*touched it up with 400
*then 800
*finally wet sand 1000

I am also going to try a product called PLASTICS RENEW IT.

Its taken a long time but its cheeper then buying new plastics. I took some pics but cant figure out how to post them:rolleyes:

well i ride in the woods so scratches are the norm.......i been using no touch tire care ....spray it on let it set and then i lightly wipe it to spread it evenly...............it makes the plastics look better :eek2: :eek2: :eek2:

THERE IS NO WAY TO GET SCRATCHES OUT OF PLASTIC W/OUT DULLING IT. IF YOU HAVE SOME COLORED PLASTIC THAT HAS BEEN CREASED OR BENT AND HAS A WHITE LINE YOU CAN TAKE A HEAT GUN AND SLOWLY HEAT THE AREA UP AND DRAW SOME OF THE COLOR BACK INTO IT. BUT YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET IT TOO HOT AND MELT IT.

torch didnt work for me at all. it just made little darker spots. sanding, even with fine grit, will make them smudge really easy unless you use a coating.

the finest steelwool you can buy and gas does a good job but its a tedious process.

The sanding will dull the plastics, but when you start using the finer grit paper 800 or 1000 wet sanding it will start to polish the plastic. Yeah it will never look new again but it will look alot better.

As far as posting pics I have tried everything. Cant figure it out:confused:

Again.. use a heat gun and sand paper and watch your plastics return to new. sand it down real good and go over it them with the heat gun. simple and very effective.

You people who said you lose shine with this process have never tried it. it brought my plastics back to new.
