First, I did search and found some threads, but not really what I was looking for. That being said:

I am in the middle of a rebuild and I need to know what gearing you think I should be running. The engine is now a 416 with 11:1 compression, stage 2 hot cam, 450r carb, K&N filter. I will be doing a lot of MX this summer so I have 18" tires. My current gearing (this is what came on the bike when I bought it...) is 13/39. I think this will be too low, so what do you think I should be running? I was thinking of going to a 14 in the front. Any input is greatly appreciated.

i would say try the stock 15,38. I like it alot. with my 416. it pulls hard and will not just wheelie all the time. I think it would work great with the 18" tires since that is like running a stock motor with stock tires and a 14 tooth. you could try a 14, 38 and see how you like that with the new power. it would rip too, it depends on what the track is like. if it is a longer track go with the 15 if it is tight and technical try the 14. Just my .02 though, Steve

If I did 15/38, I could still use a 94 link chain?

you should be able to use the 94 link. That is the stock length right? I dont remember off hand. I have the stock length on mine. steve

I know the 99-04 and 05+ have different gearing, but the splines and all didn't change right? I was looking on RM and they have a 15 that would fit 05+ but doesn't come up for my 2000.

I have heard that they are different both some also say they are the same. I am not really sure. you should be able to find a 15 for the old ones. at least primary drive and renthal should have them. I have a 14, 15 and a 16 renthal and a 38 rear renthal with my did x ring and they fit on my 03. sorry I cant tell yopu for sure, steve

Yeah, I am only asking because RM has them on sale for $5.25 but I cannot get a 15 unless its for 05+

The splines are different they are bigger and there is less of them, compared to the <04'.
