My friend got the brand new Kawasaki 400 this last Saturday. I must tell you guys it is a nice atv. I've got a 2000 400ex with k&n, slip on powercore 4 fmf pipe, msd ignition, curtis sparks timing key, stock gearing and 20" shredders on the rear. I got her running pretty close to wear I want her on the carb i got a 40 slow jet with a 158 main and the clip 3rd from top.
Well he weighs in at about 180lb and im about 135lb. We lined up and one of my other friends flagged us. I got the hole shot on him thru 1st and 2nd but as soon as we hit around 3rd and 4th he would jump out in front about a bike and a half and thats what it stayed all the way through top end for both of us. It was fun but I dont like to lose.
I got to ride it and it is nice but you cant beat the 400s suspension. Especially through the trails. The kawasaki likes to be up in the upper rpms also. Not really helpful in tight woods unlike us 400s where we'll shine!
hope this helps

What do you think if added an after market suspension to it?

You still can't change the fact it likes to be in the upper rpms. I've got nothing against it. I rode one and didn't really impress me, it wasn't what everyone hyped it, but still a good quad nevertheless. But every now and then when I want to lug it, I can and I love that.

Erm.. Some reviews are saying the z400/kx400 suspension is better than the 400ex. If its not better its dang close.

Just to let ya know that bike is kinda.. alot better than the 400ex.

I'll go hide from the backlash now...:square

Get yourself a Keihin FCR 39MM carburetor and go milk that Cowasaki. Add a Sparks pipe and he'll suffer mad kaw disease!

Does it make that much of a difference? H#ll yea! If you're that close to the Kaw now, you'll definitely be in front with the carb. Do a search on Keihin or carb and you'll see. In fact, I had the same problem you had with a Z-400. He skunked me when I was stock. I got a pipe and made things real close. Now he hates me. I whip him at will and he's too broke to afford mods. I love it!

what do you guys think of the edelbrock carb while were on the subject?

how loud is the x-6 pipe?

The carb is $450 through Sparks. The pipe is LOUD and it really sounds good. With power comes the noise. Edelbrock? I don't have one so I can't comment but I know it's cheaper in price. I believe the performance falls off above 6K with the Edelbrock.

Thats was a nice photo 4punks , were you the one behind waiting to show them how it is done or just taken the photo? and also why are they pushing when they have reverse I was thinking that you only had to do that on 400ex ;)

I like the looks of the Kawasaki, and i would love to own one but i
wouldnt trade my EX for it.

Ride what you like and like what you ride.

that looks exactly like my friends kawasaki! The best part of the quad is that its liquid cooled.

Had to go to Binghamton today near the Suzuki / Kawasaki dealer so I stopped in and got to take a Z400 for a test ride. 1st time I rode one and it was fun , wants wheelie so easy and seem to be smooth with lets get up and go to it. Must admit reverse is a nice thing to have and now see why they taken the sport market in quads. As for the KFX 400 do you like the color green.

upstate...........the zrider was off the quad due to being tossed off when it flipped down the hill :o
Reverse wasn't an option.........it was too steep and he was a little shaken..........his second attempt at a smaller hill wasn't much better. He backed down the second time. In his defense, he just got the bike & was riding it for the second time........I didn't ask him to ride it, but I wanted to..........He did find time to slap a loud pipe on before he learned how to climb hills :o

4punks ...... thats understandable then , I had almost the same thing happen to me when I was at the H/M trails I missed 1st gear and was in the green light about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way on a steep hill I came down so fast backwards with both brakes locked up it was a little bit of a fast heart beat to say the least there for a min. luckly I keep it straight and and stopped at the bottom without flipping it. To bad you didn't get the chance to ride it , I think you would of liked it.
