Im looking into buying an R at the end of the summer and i was wondering what the best year model would be to look for

i love the look of the 04-05's but i can live with the 06 and ups
what are some things to look for when buying?

what is a good price range to keep myself in?
i hope to have close to 3000$ after i see my current wheeler

i would probably just buy one locally on craigslist
i would like somthing stock or with a few bolt ons

any input?

Depending on what kinda riding you do is gonna say whether the 04-05 or 06 up would be better for you. Same as buying one stock or modified. If you buy one modified, make sure you go over it and make sure that the person who did the work is somewhat of a mechanic.

i do mostly woods riding and i am probably going to race in some harescrambles

reason i said i wanted one tha was close to stock is becuase im used to just taking my 250ex to the dealer once a year and that be the end of it.

i just didnt want anything that would increase maintenence

intake, exhuast, etc. is cool i just dont want any motor work done

go with a 400ex then we have both 2 400ex and a 450r and the maint. is alot harder and more on the 450 but its faster !

I went from a 250ex to this.it needs alot more maitenance. Need to change oil filter, oil, airfilter after like every 2 rides.so go with a 400ex

yea

i was thinking 400ex b/c of the reverse

but to add to my statement earlier, i want to get into seroius racing and i think i would have to get a 450r after too long to get into the top classes

well if you wana get into serious racing then get a 450r.you said you wanted to get to the top classes but you said you didnt want any motor work done,do you mean you wana do it yourself after you buy it then cause your not gona get to the top classes on a stock 450r or everybodys gona be faster atleast cause like all the pple in the top classes gots modded 450s

yes, i want a stock 450 that i can build like i want with the parts i want and learn about what i put on instead of just jumping on a quad with stuff i never bought on it

i also was wondering STOCK.. what is maintenence like?

i want race GNCC type stuff and hopefully one day get into the XC1 class, thats what i meant by top classes

XC1, no offense, but it's gonna take you a while to get there. I am still happy with my 05 that I race nearly every weekend. Maintenance. Learn to love it. I change my motor oil ever 4 hours and clutch oil every 6 hours. I swap to a clean air filter after every ride. These are race bikes. They require a lot of work to keep them going.

How old are you, and do you have a job? A 450r takes maintence ( Oil changes, air filter and valve clearance checks). For GNCC type racing you don't need a 450 to start out with. If you don't won't to do alot of maintence I would buy a 400ex and learn how service it first. It would cost a arm and leg to take a R to the dealer every time you need to do a oil change.

04-05 for woods due to the twitchy front spindles they put on the 06+. Or you could get an 06+ and put the 04-05 spindles and top a-arms on. 05 is considered the best handling and has a less finicky carb.

Before anyone starts bashing me. Look where I live <<< and guess where I've heard this. As well as, I've had 2 450R's and two of my friends did also.

Good luck whatever you get, you'll still more comfortable than riding a YFZ. And yes I've had one. :D

400 is easyer to learn on beacuse its air coold, but if u wana race get the 450 .. if ur over 6 ft i would get the 06+ cuz they are a little bit bigger
