My Pro Armor skidplate seems ok to me and only took about 15 minutes to install.

Ricochet brand. I had a Pro Armor on my 400ex and had to replace it within 4 months of getting it. Not enough ground clearance for where I ride and it got chewed up. I have the Ricochet on it now and it's held up great.

The best rear skid you can buy is the PRM .250 thickness aluminum rear skid. Prolly cost around $120 but is the best made. It is bent instead of welded like the rest of the others. I put mine through hell and it has held up great.

PRM does make excellent products. I have their 1/4" A-Arm guards on my 700xx and they seem bulletproof.

GTT belly pan and a ProTect swinger skid is the best setup I have found so far

I have the Richochet as well. Solid at .25 thickness.

for trail riding, wouldn't it be better to stick with the stock steel rear skidplate??

.. not sure if that aluminium will hold up to the rocky trails...

the .250 thick aluminum ones hold up way better than the thin steel ones...armadillo makes one for a lot less than the ricochet or the prm and is just as good, just not as shiny...but who cares, it takes a beating is hidden from view anyway...

the new 400ex have a cheap plastic skid too...

I run Moose swinger and Moose chassi, Tusk A arm skids.

I got lucky on my moose skids though $75 for both they run like $300 for both.

I second the Armadillo's, I have the A arm and belly skid, perfect fit and finish, no messing around to get them to fit and they mount up rock solid, would do it again in a heartbeat! I don't know who makes my swinger plate but it's 1/4" thick and looks beefy enough to take some trail abuse. Definetly would go with something 1/4" on the swinger tho cause it's gonna take a beating, good luck

The stocker is actually plastic, at least mine was. 1/4" aluminum was a big upgrade.

What ya gotta remember some skids will allow for nerfs and some dont. I like the Moose and Pro Armor chassi skids as they have the side kick ups that protect the sides of the motor as well.

I love the pro armor a arms and the tusk as they also have kick ups protecting the front of the a arm as well as the bottom.

For the swinger I really like the moose as it just seems to fit so perfect. Dosent lower it to the ground any more than the stocker.

Also remember later on the 400ex came with a plastic swinger skid isntead of a steal, plastic belly skid and no stock a arm skids.

Ok so newbie here and am not sure which skids i need to get. I have an 07 400ex and i will be riding trails mainly. so if i want to protect her really well i need a "engine frame skid", "rear swing arm", and "A-Arm skid plate". sorry for the stupid question but i just want a clear cut answer before i spend my money.

I wouldnt run A-arm skids. They are pointless and look dumb IMO. Use that extra cash for nerfs.
As long as your not riding over alot of rocks/boulders/stumps I would just get a nice swingarm skid. If you are then get a belly too.

Everyone has good luck with PRM and Ricochet skids.

I would buy a maier thick plastic chassis skid...its cheaper, mounts easier..and wont rattle...and its lighter. They do not make them for 400ex anymore buy the 450r one will fit with a couple drilled holes.

I have the .250" Armadillo Swingarm Skid plate on mine and it seem`s to work fine.

i make my own out of a road sign :) works great and it fits exactly how you want it. all you need is something to cut it with like a plasma cutter or torch, a drill, and some metal hose clamps. its the hillbilly way but they work wonders!!!

I had an Armadillo on my Warrior. It seemed like a good product. My 400 had PRM chassis and swingarm skids on it when I bought it. Only problems I've had is I had to cut notches in the chassis skid in order to mount my nerfs. Now I'm going to have to do it again for my Houser A-arms or It looks like the grease fittings may hit. It does have holes for all the oil drain locations though.
