Recommend me a good set of grips. I'm going to be ordering them online, so I'll have no chance to get any hands on. Are Oury grips any good, or is there something else I should look at?

Give a look at Spider Grips. I used Rentals and Pro Tapers and hated both. Bought some Spider Grips and will never ride with anything else again.

I like the spiders I had but I really like the Oury's though. I will say if you have smaller hands don't get the oury's. Cause they are pretty thick. My hands are pretty big and I have no problem with them.

okay so Pro Taper came out with the pillow grips. THEY ARE AMAZING!!!! i've had ever kind of grip at some point in time from scott to odi to milano and these pro tapers are amazing they are very very soft!! and you don't need to wire them on with the cool new locking system they have on them to hold it to the handlebars!!! and i'm yet to loose my grip when hitting big rocks.

i have a set of the pro taper pillow tops and i hate them. the best grip i have ever bought were spider slt's and i'm getting another set before long cause i can't stand the pro tapers.

why do you not like the pro tapers??

they rub my hands raw even when i wear gloves and they just aren't as comfortable as the spiders. When your pro tapers wear out, try a set of spiders.

check up another one for Oury. Havent tried a lot of grips, stock suck along with renthal and scott. Read up a lot and found that many racers were using Oury and they are one of the best if not the best grips. I love them.

my vote goes to odi lock on grips...soft, comfortable, will not come off, no glue(or hairspray) required,

I will agree with a previous post-er that said don't use the OURY's if you have small hands. I have small-er hands and they were just too fat and I think they caused arm pump. I switched to spider SLT's and we will see how they perform next time i'm out. They look good, also nice and tacky.

i have renthals now and my hands get destroyed every time i go riding, i even got the underware kevlar gloves to help but i still get blisters. I used to have ourys and i liked them a lot and im thinking of going back to them. I will look at spiders too, i just cant stand all the blisters i get ever time i ride.

Hyper you should try the Spiders. I was the same way until I switched over. Tag Metals aren't that bad either I don't think.

Does anyone know of a GOOD hairspray to use to mount grips? I have a set of pro tapers and I can get the thumb end to get sticky, but the bar end is always loose. Any suggestions?

Use the gasoline trick. Its simple, pour gas into the grip. slosh it around a bit and dump the gas out. slip them on and in about an hour (best to let them sit overnight) they are rock solid. After seeing guys doing this at a bunch of races I tried it and gave up glue forever.

or you can spray some brake parts cleaner in them and let that dry. I have used it. dont use glue unless they are used grips and you are putting them on a second time. then they are tough to get to stay tight. steve

No kiddin? ALL these years I've been fighting these dang things and all I had to do was dump some gas in there? LOL. Thank you! How did noone ever tell me this before? I'll give it a shot.

I figured I was the last to know about it. So when I saw your post I would throw it there.

you can also use rubbing alcohol, it works about the same as gas.

Which spider grips do you use i see a bunch of different models?

for securing grips I use chain lubricant. Works great but after a while it will loosen up if your riding in real wet conditions. Just wipe some water away and spray them back up with it.

I use the A3 flange-less and just get some FX donuts for the insides so the throttle doesn't rub your hand. The A3's are the thicker of the two made for ATV's. The SLT ATV is the slimmer one, I haven't tried these yet but they look nice. By the way guys bead sealer works really good too. It is made to seal beads on tires so it is compatible with rubber.

sweet thanks, im going to pick up some of those A3's for sure, and some bead sealer, i need to seal my bead anyways so why not kill 2 birds with one stone.

Just spray clearcoat in your grip. It will dry and they wont ever move.

Well I tried Carb cleaner and gas both and neither one held. I'm wondering if I need to get some new grips. Too bad too, cuz they're the ones that came with the Pro Tapers and I like them. They're kinda mushroomy. For the life of me I can't get them to hold though.

Sometimes you have to let them sit overnight to get them to completely dry out. Were they previously installed on bars? sometimes they get stretched and dont seem to ever hold for me. I only use them once and chuck them. My progrips I gassed 2 nights ago and went to bed. Got up in the morning and they were solid.

Yes, they were on there when it came. The person before me had tried to use some kind of gasket sealer....orange goo... on the ends and it held the inside, but the outsides spun and stretched. So I took them off, cleaned the goo and sanded the bars a little to give it "gription". First tried hairspray, then gas, then carb cleaner. They just spin. Sounds like I might be outta luck. And I'm SORRY for hijacking this thread, lol as I know I'm not being any help with your grip decision :ermm:

Buy some new ones if you like. that would be best. I have never had good luck with used grips twice. steve
