Well I had a 400EX that I had set up pretty well. I really liked it a lot and I wish I still had it now. But I am building my R because I think it will be a much better machine.

I have only ridden one other R and it was much better than the 400. Lighter, and handled better.

Just my thoughts.

I've owned 2 400ex's and currently have 2 250r's, what's that tell you? I personally like the 250r better; handles better, is lighter and the 2-stroke hit puts a smile on my face. :D

That's a great question to ask in a 250R forum. Real smart.

I think that depends on what I am doing. If I am just out messing around, the ex is much easier to just "play" on. If I am going to do some serious riding, the R just plain rips.

I do think that my ex is usable in far more situations with the way it is setup, but the R is a lot more fun if you keep it in its element.

That's like saying "what's the best vehicle?" Well, that depends. If you commute 60 miles to work, you probably don't want a Ford F350. But if you're towing a horse trailer, you probably don't want a Honda Civic.

Personally, I have more money in my 250r, but I find myself riding my 400EX in the hills and trails around my house because I don't have to keep it full throttle all the time.

It's all in your riding style, and what you want to do with it. If you're in the dunes, the 250r is better hands down. If you're looking to just cruise the trails, the 400EX behaves much better.

what if u have a 440ex stroked and stage2 cams and a stock 250r which would be more faster/better in trails/mx??

in my opinion the 400ex handles in the woods better and the 250r has much better power. espically if geared and piped correctly for application. this is why i am building a 400ex/250r hybrid.

so your comparing a "built" 440 (stroker) ex to a fully "built" stock cylinder "R" ?

The "R" will walk all day long on the ex. Not biased, but I own both.

For open flat out riding I LOVE my "R", but for dinking around, trail riding, tight trails, riding with kids, the ex (mine is as built as they come too) is my preference.

They're getting to be around the same price now so its a good question.

A 400ex is much newer so it has the reliability factor but just doesn't have the same nimbleness and raw feel as a 250R.

250R!

I ride with a group that consists of all fourstroke quads. Two strokes and fourstrokes both have their places in the offroad world. Every time we ride my buddies cant get over how fast the R is. Im not talkin about drag racing here because, they dont stand much of a chance there either! LOL I'm talkin about trail riding and MX. They just cant grasp how well this machine gets it done! I absolutely love my 250R! I wouldn't trade it for the world!
Just my 2 cents! Thanx.
