Clutch Question

I just installed a new OEM clutch basket and when installing the friction plates, it was a rather tight squeeze in between a couple of the basket fingers. I didn't think anything about it really because the basket is new, but you guys have more experience with this than I do. Is this normal? Also, when the clutch lever is pulled are the discs supposed to spread? Any info will be helpful. Thanks.

when I've installed new baskets, the plates can be a tight fit. If you look, when pulling the clutch in, the plates don't separate much, its mainly the pressure plate that moves out and releases pressure holding the clutch pack transferring to the tranny.
