Pretty much the norm.
if you put your fingers in the chain it will cut them off so be careful with that too.
normal just think of how hot the explosion is inside. The spark plug tip fires between 450 - 850° C. Your headers will be hot quick but it takes some time for the silencer to get too hot to touch.

i actually know i kid that did that...:huh i have no idea what he was thinking when he decided to shove his fingers between the chain and sprocket but i guess it was a good enough reason to try it:confused:

If it bothers you just buy some header wrap and silicon spray and wap it up. It doesnt get rid of the heat just tones it down

one more lil' tid-bit 'o knowledge fer ya...
when it's dark out, and your checking your fuel level,...
don't use a candle to see inside the tank.
(or a match, lighter, or blowtorch ).
and when your checking the valve clearances, the engine must not be running, and your finger is not a "feeler gauge".

I've seen a guy put out his cigarette in a gas tank. Dumbest thing i've seen with gas. Nothing happen he didnt blow up but I wouldnt recomend trying it.
