I was putting in my jets today and I hit a snag, I put a 155 main in and a 42 pilot jet.

I ALSO TOOK MY CHOKE OFF, and plugged the hole for slide rod.

When I started it I was getting some smoke from the exhaust which I never got before so I am assuming I am rich so I went to adjust the air/fuel screw and adjust the idle down a bit so I could tell the difference, That is when I find a problem,

I can screw the throttle stop screw in ALL the way and it still doesnt touch the part that its supposed to, The throttle cable is tight for some reason, I took the tank back off and traced it to the handlebars and there is no kink in it. I tried to loosen it at the handlebars with no luck.

It operates the slide and stuff but it is not letting the throttle link arm touch the throttle stop screw. It idles too high and you can not turn the idle up or down?

What would make it tight like that?

Here are a couple pics of the parts im talking about

is it possible for that little plastic piece that sits around the main jet to get jammed in suck a way that the needle cant make it down or something?

when you put your carb back on did you hold the throttle cable and turn the carb or did you hold the carb and turn the throttle cable? the first time I did this I held the carb and spun the throttle cable to screw it in and this caused the cable to spin around inside the rubber coating kinking it up and making it really hard to push the throttle. I eventually snapped the cable.

I think this is the case. but I'm not positive.

I never touched the throttle, I guess I could have spun the carb once or twice and not payed attention and that would explain the length maybe but I didnt loosen the throttle cable where it goes into the top of the carb. I dont know how it would spin in the cable housing without loosening that

I guess I could unhook the throttle cable tomorrow in the light and see if it will untwist or something.

oh and I guess I should say, I never totally removed the carb to rejet, I just unhooked it from the intake and the head and pulled it up so I could get to it.

I would pull the cable out and put it back in. from your second pic it looks like the cable isn't letting your throttle body all the way down.

Yeah Tommy that is exactly what is going on I think but I just have to find the problem, its dark now and I dont have any lights in my shed so I will have to do it tomorrow so I am mainly looking for ideas to start with

you can adjust the cable slack up on the thumb throttle. you should have about 1/8" of play in it.

yeah I tried to adjust it at the bars with no luck.

I think I have found the problem. I have found people online saying they had the same issue and it came from when they have twisted the carb in a circle when jetting it so the cable is spun inside the sleeve so it is at a bit of a bind.

I will take the cable off today to see if that is the problem but that would explain it.

Ok turns out I have 2 issues, #1 problem is my throttle cable WAS twisted so thanks for that info guys you were spot on and I appreciate the private messages and help.

#2 I believe was caused by me twisting the idle screw to get it up to the throttle and the springy part broke in half so now I have to order one of those.

The jetting was a bit off so I went with a 42 pilot and a 152 main and its running great.

Started fine today without the choke with only 2 pumps of the throttle and it was cold and snowing yesterday so I think not having a throttle will be fine.
