Are 88-89 TRX 250R hubs and rotors the exact same as the 400ex?

I am having front brake issues and figure it would be cheaper to just buy 400ex hubs and rotors rather than just new rotors for my 86-87 setup.

Thanks!

88 and 89 hubs are different than the 400ex hubs. For some reason the 88-89 hubs will fit on 400ex spindles but 400ex hubs won't work on 89 spindles.

88 spindles are different than both 89 spindles and 400ex spindles so the bearings in the hubs have to match up to the year.

The rotors for the 88/89 and 400ex hubs are the same.

None will work with an 86/87 setup of spindles or rotors.

i thought the 400ex hubs fit on 89 spindles, but not the 88 spindles... :ermm:

Let me know if I am correct on this one, 400ex spindles and hubs will fit a 250R but you CAN'T run 250R calipers on them, correct?

400EX hubs will fit 89 250R spindles with no mods. 400EX hubs will also fit 88 250R spindles when you remove the center tapered spacer in the hubs.

400EX spindles will work on 250R a arms, but 250R calipers will not bolt up to them unless you get caliper adapter plates. You can get the adapter plates from Baldwin Motorsports.

If you run the 400EX spindles and hubs then you need to have adaptors to run the dual piston R calipers! I just did this exact swap! Either buy the adaptors or run 400x calipers. Or you can run 04 spindles, hubs and calipers off of a 450R. The 450R has dual piston calipers with cooling fins on them. (nice)
Dont run anything later than 04 or 05 (cant remember) on the 450R swap. The later years will screw up your camber. In other words not desirable!

Theres a difference between 88 and 89 spindles???

Also is the difference between the single piston 400 calipers and the dual piston R calipers...I know you are comparing two pistons and one, but theres also surface area and everything.

More surface area on the 250R brake pads.

I couldn't manage to find any Baldwin adapter plates to use 250R calipers on 400ex spindles/hubs. I would love to run this setup. 400ex parts are dirt cheap and I already have 250R calipers...Let me know a link to purchase the adapters.

So the R has a better brake set up all together.

What about the 450R stuff, I would assume its pretty similar to the 400ex parts.
