I just received my Uni filter today. Again, I am new to quads and I have a new 06 with a slip on. This is really my only other perf. mod other than the pipe. Does the Uni need to be pre-oiled or just install? Also, this is the two stage filter. I hear about many of you with outerwears, different lids, etc. Not sure what all that means yet. Anything else really needed? I did order a cleaning an oil kit for the Uni but it won't be here till next week.

Yes, you absolutely need to oil it with foam filter oil before you install it. They do not come pre-oiled from the factory. You'll get no protection if you run it "dry". The UNI filter kit is all you need to maintain it....but you can use any foam filter oil/cleaner of your liking in the future. I use No Toil products to maintain my UNI filter.

An Outerwears is simply a very fine screen that blocks out large dirt particles from prematurely clogging the filter, and also is water-repellant so the filter doesn't get soaked. You can get them to "replace" your stock airbox lid (run no lid, put Outerwears in its place) as well as to go on the filter itself (fits on the filter like a sock). Visit http://www.outerwears.com/products.asp?cat=11931&pg=2 for more info and choose filter MFG:UNI. The stock airbox lid covers are there as well. Right now I run an Outerwears on my airbox lid only, but i'm going to get another Outerwears to fit on my UNI filter as well.

Here's a pic of a generic Outerwears for the filter:

and here's a pic of one replacing the stock airbox lid like I run:

You can also get an EHS Racing airbox lid, which is a modified stock airbox lid with an Outerwears incorporated into it. More info here: http://www.ehsracing.com/products/400ex_airbox_EHS.htm

Here's what an EHS racing lid looks like:

Keep in mind, if you take off the airbox lid, albeit running it "open", open with an Outerwears covering it, or an EHS racing lid, you will need to rejet larger to compensate for the additional airflow.

Thanks. THat was very imformative and exactly the info I needed. I will plan on re-jetting sometime but, again, will have no idea where to start on that one either.
