400ex How do I check for bad carrier bearings?

How do you check for bad carrier bearings? I have no front to back play in the axle. Top to bottom it moves slightly but very little. What is considered acceptable? Please help

the best way i've found to check mine is to park it on level ground and shift your weight from footpeg to footpeg and if there's any play you need to change them cause it sucks when they blow out. it leaves you stranded in the trails with no way to move it.

ya, or just block the rearend up on a milkcrate and see if it is very sloppy or not, you will know wen there gone, if there slightly loose just snug up ur axle nut.

You tighten the axle nut by turning it left pushing it against the clip on the axle then tighten the narrow nut against it correct?
