alright, i'm sending my flywheel out to get shaved down some. i'm just curious how much anyone else got taken off and if it was worth it. i think i can safely remove 6oz but i'm not positive, the guy doing it knows whats safe and whats not but i would like to know if anyone has done more or less. thanks

i did almost 7oz on a 426 motor about 2 years ago for a guy. he loved it. i have never seen one rev so quick. not a bad mod.

ya i've been looking but couldn't find any lightened one's. but my friend bought one for a z400 and it was about $135. i can get mine shaved down for $50 so i'm not too worried about it. i would be very happy to get 7oz off, hopefully i can get it done.
thanks for the replys.

I haven't heard any bad things about them. In my mind the less weight would give you quicker revs but sacrifice the bottom end or lug ability a bit but the 400ex has so much on tap already it does not seem to be a big deal.

The biggest drawback to me is finding a local machinist that can do it. Not many around here.

I just machined my flywheel and including the sprag that bolts to it, I took off 36oz. (you cant remove the sprag unless you are making it kick start, which I am). I haven't had it running since I shaved it, but I'm sure it will rev FAST!!!!!

Thanks BB

P.S. If you are willing to ship it to NJ I will machine it for you.

my friends z has no drawbacks to it except that it does stall a little easier.

but he gaied a good bit of lower to top end...it just revs and as long as you hold on it goes fassst. another drawback is it gives you a lot of blisters just from taking off.

hey BamBam, do you know how much you took off just the flywheel? or if you still have it off could you just weigh it now and let me know how much it weighs? thanks

Yes I took off 18.5 oz off the flywheel, I would say you could take off between 9-10 and still have the e start capability.

Thanks BB

i had mine cut and took off 10 oz. now it revs like a honda should. dont forget to have it rebalanced after you cut it.

Great info here, I've been planning on doing mine for a while. I talked to sc400ex_rider about it a while ago, he definately knows what he is talking about. Hoping to get it done in the next few weeks now that school is starting to calm down a bit. I'll let ya'll know how it goes and post some pics.
