I can ride a kx65 and it hauls but thats completely different.

I'm 5'9.5" 180lbs. and a 125 doesn't do a thing for me. I like Monster Hill Climbs, Fastttt trail riding, and some jumps here or there. Jumping is alright. Big Hills or fast in general ain't happening. And if you think it is fast you just ain't been on anything bigger or faster. My personal preference would be a 250. A 125 to a 250 is night and day difference!

Ride both and then decide.

Im about 160 lbs and ive owned a cr125 and 2 rm250s. I liked the power of the 250 but most of the time it really was too much. In every category I actually liked riding the 125 better, I was faster or at least felt faster because it was sooooooooooo light and flickable yet still quick. The 125 was a honda and they are supposedly the "weakest" and I wished for slightly more juice but the 250 for me was way to much in the woods. I would go for a 125.

ive rode 250 2 strokes and 450f's. and i still think that RM125 was pretty quick! sure there not as powerful but i still think 125's are fun bikes:)

I just came off a Crf450r and play around on a 2001 cr250r. When i get on one of my buddies 125's (kx and cr) They feel like there is NO power. There are hill climbs i do in mid second gear on my old bike or the cr250 (and do it with ease). I do the same hill on the 125 and the poor thing is screaming its lungs out going no-where. Line the three up there is NO competition. I never said it wasn't a fun bike. The riding i like to do, if you ain't 14 years old or like 140 lbs. that bike ain't hanging. Just My Opinion

ok heres the deal with it. if you lined them all up, 450F, 250r, 250F, and 125r then your goin to get these results, 450 1st about a half bike or bike ahead by the end of 4th gear, next is the tight battle of the 250s, the 2 stroke will strech out more than the 4 stroke on mid to top end but not much. and the 125 comes in last not even a bike lenth behind. There is a difference but not enough to the average rider. People don't realize that what ever you pick you have to ride it a certain way to get the most power out of it. only the 450 has the real unfair advantage but if you don't know how to ride it then it doesnt matter. they are all fast. Heck man you can't ride a 250 2 stroke and then get on a 125 and ride it the same way expecting it to be like the 250, you have to ride the 125 totally different. same as 4strokes. Everyone says 450s are way faster than 250 4strokes, there is no comparisons, well go look up pro times at the next supercross races, the top lites guys are running the same times as the top 5 supercross 450 guys. 125s are ok bikes also but you can't lung them any, you have to keep them wound to have any power and shift back down alot to 2nd and sometimes first alot.

you'll look a little funny on it but your choice....if that much money is being spent would make sense to get like the cr250r

well DUR, lol. of cours the 450f's and 250's are faster, but hes just wantin to know if he can ride a 125. i was guessin this is first dirtbike (maybe not just the way i saw it) now if had been ridin bikes for along time and was used to power on 2 wheels, of course get a bigger bike. i still wouldnt mind to have a good 125 to play around on:p

I'll be 30 this year, and i got my first dirtbike last year (CRF450R). No dirtbikes as a kid not even quads groing up. I got my first quad about 3-4 years ago (TRX450R) and made the switch to the bike.

Think of it like this. Why carry a .380 Kel-tec, yes it CAN do the job. But you'd never second guess if you had a .45 XD with 180grain GoldDot JHP. Yes anything can get the job done, but some things make it easier!

this may not answer your question too great lol but ill tell you my experience with bikes.

i had riden a dirt bike before once or twice (ripping out the driveway on my friends crf450). i decided to sell my quad and get a 4 stroke bike but i didnt want to get a 250 and be dissapointed in the power and want a 450 right away. i got talked into getting a 250 and am glad i did, one of the best decisions ive ever made. i know im much faster on a 250 than i would be on a 450 and i cant see myself needing more bike for a while yet.

i guess what im kinda saying is getting a smaller bike is probably a good idea if you haven't rode much before.

I just had to add I find it kinda funny that you put (all muscle) after ur weight. haha

But all in all, 125's are quick, but 250's aren't crazzyyy, I say do whatever u feel like in this case

ill even say this, if this is your first bike stay away from 450s. that would be your biggest mistake. The 125 will pull you fine. I get tired of people talking bout weight being a huge factor> in a a way it is, in a way its not. Had a buddy who has a 250f the same as mine and complains bout it not pulling his weight, hell i weighed the exact weight as he did and just plain smoked his *** at every race. That 125 will pull you just as good if not better than a guy who is 130. When you weight more you get more power to the ground, but it can lung the motor from pulling weight. If you ever feel you have trouble then gear it down in the front sprocket or 1-2 teeth up in the rear. Your average rider weight around 160 pounds hell 10-15 pounds won't make a difference depending on the riders. But i would say to be concerned if you have never owned a bike, the 250r will be more than you can handle. Its funny b/c the 250f is evenly matched but the power surge is totally difference and its harder to judge and control on the 2 stroke. You can lug the 4 stroke. You can't a 2 stroke, especially the 125. just some more thoughts before you buy. 125 is a great starter bike for sure. but i do believe you should buy a 250 4stroke. You will be more happier bc its the medium and is so easy to ride. not too powerful but you get every bit of power to the ground and its fast.

i am 180 or so at 6 ft 2 and i fit very well on my kx. i would start on the 125 unless you have had experience wit machines making 40 or more hp. the 250's are almost too fast for me... took me 2 hours to begin to get used to my buddies kx250

I have a 01 kx 125 and a 04 yz 125 the yz will flat out rip the kx a new one. I had a 01 rm250 and i would rather ride the yz any day over the 250. Im 5'11" and 160 and the yz flat out hauls with me
btw the kx and yz are both for sale too

i dont see that there is a need for the power and speed of a 450f bike. my buddys never leave third gear on thier bikes unless there crusing down a back road to get to trails and bog in 5th.

Yep, for racing purposes they are rated 130 - 140 lbs. But if your just gonna do some trailriding then you would be ok at your size, but you will find it won't have the balls to get up big hills

ya, but there are plenty of people who CAN ride a 450 to their full potential:)
