View Full Version : Just Picked This Up.....

Worked out a deal this past weekend for this, 05, tuned er up, Valves, Jetting, air filter, Oil and all lube work. Runs perfect and fairly un molested, hard to find a 400ex used that hasnt been half beaten to death. I'm gonna pick up a set of rear tires and new chain and sprockets here real soon, I'm really happy with it.

and you may not know it yet,...
but the yellow ones come stock with 742 more horsepower than the red or black ones :D :D :D

Does that mean if i put on Yellow plastic ill get 742 more horsepower?:p :D

Nice bike!!! Welcome to the forum! That's the same bike I started out with. I started with the ol' yellow/black hornet as well (and the 742 stock HP motor)....since then, the disease has cost me too much to mention.
Share your new experience(s) with everyone, and make sure and ask questions (including what exhaust is best, whether a foam filter or k&n is better, and a good jetting question)

Thanks, have only been able to buzz around the neiborhood on it a few times, but it feels crisp and quick, actually feels quicker then the old 04 I used to have, I did read where Honda changed the tranny gear ratios starting with the 05 model, feels like it shifts shorter and quicker. I have already gone into the carb on it, was jetted to rich on the bottom, had a 42 in there, I put the stock 38 back in and adjusted the fuel screw out about 1 3/4 turns, and put in a 155 main jet, runs out strong, sweet bike, may well be peaking around the 742 HP mark :D

gearing is different on the new ones too. i think it is 14,36 instead of 15,38. not sure on the 36 but i know they are different for the 05 and up models. steve

in 05 they cahnged the tranny gears and the final drive is 14/39, so that means 05 up are geared higher in the tranny.

I know thats right!! My wife still wants to beat me over the last 10 ive moded and got rid of, she just dosn't understand, its almost more fun hookin em up as it is ridin em!!

i had an 05 in red i loved it you can rip on it and rip on it and rip on it and it will still work 400ex are the best more riding less fixing
