i like the hinson 7 plate kit. the 8 plate kit kicks *** but you need a hinson basket to use it. that 7 plate kit is about $100. holds up real well. i used to use it before i went to the 8 plate kit. i loved it

clutch springs and steel plates are not included. they do sell a complete kit with hd spring, steel plates and fiber plates for about $190. a little pricey but it lasts at least twice as long as any other clutches i have used

Stock clutch plates are worlds better than Tusk and will last much longer than any aftermarket plates. Honda clutch plates are all I run in my Hinson 8 plate setup.

You can also step up to one of the cheaper (but effective) versions of the 8 plate clutch kit that Sparks Racing and GT Thunder offer for the 400EX.

The Sparks Racing 8 plate clutch kit comes with 8 fibers/7 steels and HD clutch springs. This kit fits right into the stock basket with no mods, so this leads me to believe it uses thinner plates. $139.95: http://www.alwaysopenmall.com/layouts/02/unsecure/item.asp?SiteID=223&DepartmentID=85&CategoryID=949&GroupID=7034&ItemID=36574&StartNum=1&Sort=&ShowPics=0&ListByCode=1&Brand=&GenderAgeGroupID=0&MaxPrice=&SearchString=&ItemCode=&IsOnlyOnSale=0&FromHomePage=0&FromFamily=0&ProductFamilyID=0&RelatedItemID=0

The GT Thunder 8 plate clutch kit comes with 8 fibers/7 steels, HD clutch springs, a new clutch cover gasket, and an OEM Honda pressure plate that has been machined to provide room for 1 extra fiber/steel plate over stock. This kit probably uses stock 400EX plates since the pressure plate has been machined for the extra required room. $212.95: http://www.gtthunder.com/400EXClutchKit.html

Whatever you do don't get tusk, you'll be kicking yourself later for cheaping out.
