Iam looking to buy a new exhaust i am kinda stuck between hmf and the new motoworks! Iam also on a very tight budget and looking for some bottom end!

i have the hmf and love it, good power gains but it is VERY loud. riding through trails it gets almost annoying to listen to. i like the sound of the motoworks aswell, and that would probably be the next one i would buy if i had to.

but now that the novelty has wore off of having the loudest i wish i had got the motoworks. my .02 cents hope it helps

I have a Motoworks SR4 and it sounds great and made a noticable improvment on the bottom end.

i'd take the motoworks over HMF anyday. Everyone has hmf and i think they're annoying. I like the sound of the motoworks, and not many people have them

i think there a reason why everyone has a HMF. its one of the best pipes out there. while they are loud, which i kinda like, with the quite core installed it has a nice tone. i have 3 HMF full systems and i would not run any other exhaust. i have tried a lot of other exhausts, while i have never tried the motoworks, i have not found one that l like better than HMF. not to mention that HMF has the best customer service that i have ever seen anywhere.

I've been considering both of these, myself. So, is it safe to assume the the Motoworks is quieter than the HMF?

HMF for me! If you go to an XC race the majority of racers will have an HMF pipe. And i don't think it's just cause they are cool looking.

03-31-2009, 01:28 PM
Damn people in their HMF hating and then those that are Sparks loving. Like Sanddraging28 said, theres a reason why everyone has them because they are low cost and perform great. YOu dont see that very often for you to buy one of the lowest priced items and have one of the best. Loud pipes save lives. They really do and it serves a purpose. Go race someone with a loud pipe/motor with something thats quiet. You wont know what RPM your at or anything. I'm good at feeling for RPM but when your racing and cant hear the thing your on you usually end up losing. I dont think anything is louder than a 450 dirtbike or a full race built 450

I liked my HMF and was very happy with how it performed and sounded on my 400EX.

i wasn't tryin to say that HMF is a bad pipe it's just that everyone has them and i like to be different. i like loud pipes too, my E-series is one of the loudest pipes i've heard. HMF's have a high pitch and that's all i dont like about them. But about every slip-on will give you more performance over stock. Sorry everyone i didn't mean to offend

you're completely entitled to your opinion, but you say HMFs are high pitched? :huh

the one's i've heard arehigh pitched compared to my e-series. My e-series is really deep and hollow sounding. It may be me though.

Going solely off sound clips, I'd say that I agree with you...

The Hmf is a little higher pitched than the Motoworks. I know this because my buddy has the HMF and we ride all the time together and have the same mods. As far as power gains they seem to be pretty much the same.

HMF!!! I have rode several different 400ex's with all kinds of pipes, and i still like my HMF over all of them, and everyone that has rode mine has liked it too.... It sounds really good, but it is loud, but hey, thats just part of it!! Its your decision, do what you wish, but I would get a HMF if i were you....

my buddy has the full motoworks sr4 system and he loves it. it is extremely lighter than stock, produces lots of bottom and mid range power and sounds really nice and built without the abnoxious bark that most other pipes have. Like my friends z400 with the yoshi pipe. its just stupid and makes your ears ring when he takes off. I would go motoworks all the way if i were you. also Dirt wheels magazine claims it to be one of if not the best!

if you have the money go with the motoworks... amazing pipe. if your on a tight budget though the hmf is also an amazing pipe for the price.

Are you Motoworks guys running the slip-ons or the full systems?

I see there are a few full systems floating aroung on ebay, but they're not listed on the Motoworks site. Are they discontinued?

So not to be an *** but does anyone here making claims have dyno sheets before and after pipe install. Or is this all seat of the pants bs??

Sanddraging28
04-01-2009, 06:45 PM
My 426 did make power with a HMF than with a Yosh RS-3. thats the best i can do when it comes to the dyno. it was only .4hp, not really a big deal

ZJTurbo
04-01-2009, 06:57 PM
Thats what i mean tho, .4 hp is like a good gust of wind?? I want some dyno sheets before I make my descision?

Sanddraging28

i am a creature of habit. when something works for i tend to stick with it until it doesn't work for me anymore. HMF has yet to let me down.

ZJTurbo
04-01-2009, 07:08 PM
How do you know it works?? .4 hp? I dont mean to offend or insult I just really want to know?

I can tell you that after I installed the Motoworks slip-on, mid range power was greater. That is most likely true with the HMF, I cannot vouch for personaly, since I have never rode with one. No matter which one you choose, you will gain more than with the stock pipe. As it seems, some are saying the Motoworks are quieter, maybee something you need to coinsider. Some places that I ride in Northern Lower Michigan enforce a noise limit, so you may want to check with your local DNR for that. You can try to find sound bytes of each to help your decision.

Also HMF is available in different colors, if keeping with a color scheme is important.

Except for big gun. It loses a HP or 2 up top but gains a little mid. Detuning that isnt cheap lol
