more details on the quad?

stock bore?
carb jetted?
stock exhaust or aftermarket?
change the oil recently?
what fuel octane level?

there are ALOT of things that could do it, are you sure you got your valve nuts tight enough?

if you adjusted your valves you could be running lean, I just had that happen to me. Try turning your air fuel screw out a little to see if that helps.

Did you put the pipe on it or was it on it when you bought it?

The thing is probably running lean

My 05 does the same thing, just characteristic of the RFVC motors, I just adjusted the valves last night, they are dead on, .004 intake and .005 exhaust, only thing I have done to mine is upped the main jet to a 155, fuel screw out 1 3/4 turns with a K and n filter, and removed baffle. Runs awesome and ripps but tickedy, tickedy. My old 04 did the same thing. As long as you know your valves are adjusted correctly and you don't have the airbox lid off with stock jetting, ride the crap out of it!
