For all the R experts, have some couple of questions. Since its my first R I decided to go stock bore and see what she is capable off before I go big bore (was tempted with the esr 310) , Ive read alot of good info in the forum that tells me that in stock condition we have a decent XC trail riding bike, just have to make a couple of mods. The Mods Ive done so far are: boyensen rad valve, 200w stator, lonstar racing +1 anti vibe stearing stem and clamp, sb brakelines front and rear, asv clutch and brake lever, sb clutch and throttel cable, custom axis front shocks doble rate, rebuilt stock rear shock, pro circuit platinum pipe, wiseco piston, hotrods crank and thats a bout it. Are the mods Ive doning on the right track? It has the stock carb, and was thinking on changing it for a 36mm or 38 mm air stryker which will be best for xc and trail riding? It has stock a-arms everything tight, but was thinking on buying +1 arms, is this worth it? or shoul I stay with the stocks? Every other tip you guys can give me will be really apreciated. Cant wait for the weekend!!

Thanks,

Ed.

Don't worry about changing the a-arms or carb. Both will be fine for what you're doing. Get it dialed in and let us know how it runs. Your setup looks pretty good.

If you're looking to ride this weekend, I would just get some seat time on it before you start changing things you're not 100% sure on.

You're close, try the stock carb for a while. Ride the stock arms for a while, get a feel for the whole bike, THEN look for areas of improvement.

I see you said stainless braided throttle cable, is it the kind with the clear cover so you can see the braided liner? If so can you give me some details like who makes it and a part number. I tried getting one to match my streamline clutch cable and the picture matched however when I got it, it was the black cable. Its a motion pro.
Thanks for the info and good luck with your build, sounds like you have a solid platform.

I order the streamline platinum series clucth and throttle cables heres the link where I bought them. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Streamline-Platinum-Clutch-Throttle-Cables-TRX250R_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713Q2em153Q2el 1262QQcategoryZ43967QQihZ010QQitemZ200325930642 Havent arrived yet. They are the ones you describe, but to be sure ill wait till they arrived and post a picture. Afterwards I found them at a cheaper price at http://www.rockymountainatv.com/typeDetail.do?&navType=type&navTitle=Control&webTypeId=33&webCatId=12&allVehParts=true] . Hope to be getting them this week.

Should be the right one then, I have the streamline platinum clutch cable and its the braided with the clear cover.I got it from Motosport.com but all they had for throttle cables was the motion pro. The streamline platinum clutch cable is a really nice piece but takes some work to get on its pretty short. Thank you very much for the info, now I gotta decide if I should get the streamline throttle cable or run my brand new motion pro for awhile.

i would say for a woods set up that is sick as hell for a start!
i wouldnt touch the motor leave it as is ride it and get use to it and then start with a 310 or 1 265 PV or what ever... i would also get a steering dampener...dont need to blow 500 on it 50 is good enough for the first one... i have a PEP non rebuildable one and i spent 30 bucks on it and its been great!

Hope to finish her this weekend.

Have a couple of questions. I was reading the "how to break in your motor" thread and they explained the best way to do it, somewhere in there they said "blip the throttle" what does this mean? like accelerate quickly and release the throttle imidiatly? im I getting the idea? Also when they say for example, "ride it 1/4 to 1/2 then let it cool down" how much time do I ride it each session?

Well thats about it for know. I imagine that after I ride, Ill have more question.

Thanks for the answers and cant wait to ride!!!

Hello everyone. Well I finally finish the job, took her for the breaking process and I heard a weird sound. The motor runs great but the ball joint on my arms are bad, they make a really bad sound when they move (like a tap sound). I wanted to change the ball joints on the stock arms but they are welded cant seem to be able to...is there a way to remove them and change them or will I have to buy new arms? If I have to buy new arms should I go with a +1 or +2 up 1? and my last question, does any body have some arms that they want to sell? ive look on ebay and the ASR arms look good, they even sell a package with the tie rod ends and the sb brake lines. what do you guys think of them? Any advice you guys could give me would be really helpfull

Thanks for all the help,

Ed

aftermarket a-arms are all over on here at a very good price... just take you time and look around. some guys on here hardly use their quads and they are like brand new and rebuilt them all the time... so just look around. and it will depend on what type of ridiny your planning on doing for a +2 or a +1... i would just get a +1 if your doing trailing or else a +2 if your gonna run motocross but i didnt think you would be doing that..

most of us run a +2 arm with a 4-1 offset front wheels to give you a +1 per side total, but with a better feel since you are removing bump steer by putting the center of the tire inline with the ball joints.

then if you wanna go play on the mx track, bolt your stock front rims back up, and you have the full width again.

just my .02

Yeah I agree with some of the others get some seat time on what you have because that is a great bike.
BTW the 38mm a/s will wake that bad boy up!

Id say if your constantly cleaning your bike and not riding in mud and water heims will hold up okay, but I personally prefer ball joints. Like mentioned if your trail riding id stick to stock or +1s.

If your interested in some stock 88 a arms I have a set i will part with. Shoot me a PM. They feel tight but I never checked them while bolted to the bike. So honestly I cant garuntee anything.
