Anyone ever try to extend the stock steering stem on the z400? Cut the top off and weld a 1-inch extension? Is this possible?

Yes it is possible I have done it in the past. I had to find the heavy wall tubing to plug weld and sleeve. It isnt worth it IMO tried to use it for mx and the welds broke. Get an aftermarket antivibe made from chromoly it is well worth it.

I had it done to mine back in 06 and have jumped it hundreds of times since and it's still perfect. http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o65/icanzu/DSC00557.jpg

Well, I don't really know. The guy that did it is an ATV mechanic and a fabricator. He used to make a-arms and stuff too. So when I got Tag bars and needed extra height he said that he'd mod mine and guarantee it for life, meaning if it ever broke or bent at that spot from flipping, crashing, jumping, or any other reason, he'd fix it for free. So far I've done all of those, and it's still good. Go figure.

That,s cool of him ! just thoght cutting in middle would be easier then at top but your,s seem,s to work fine so i guess it dont matter just how good its welded.
