i seen where someone made a lid with an outerwear fliter and their stock lid where they cut the center out and made aluminum pieces to hold the outerwear will that cause me to lose hp instead of running without a lid period? kinda shying away from the no filter thing

i guess it could restrict air flow a little but not enough to hurt it in my opinion. i run an outerware on my filter and the velcro outerware top instead of a lid. for mx i would jsut go no lid but for everything else i like to run something to help keep the mud/dirt out.

yeh it has worked well in the past for me. you'll need to clean your airbox more but thats it. if you do race/ride in the woods you may look into the outerware that takes the place of the lid. they are under 20 bucks and good extra assurance the dirt/water is staying off your filter. good luck

i got mine from my local dealer. they should be able to order you one through parts unlimited or rocky mountain atv. you take your lid off and place velcro around the top where your lid mounted then you place the outerwear onto the top of the box. they are not the ones like on ebay but work very well esp. if you run an outerware on your filter also.

I ran last XC season with no lid....no issues with water in the box.

However, I clean the filter after every race which is needed w/o the lid.

I tried the Velcro outerwear setup and had issues with the Velcro pulling up. I plan on cutting the lid and making my own outerwear lid setup.

that sounds like the way to go. i run all last year without a lid also with no problems but picked up the velcro lid for this season. if it gives me problems i will probably cut the lid and put the outerwear to it also.
