hey everyone,

today I went and bought a 2000 400ex for $1,400. Think I found a pretty good deal off craigslist.

What would you sugguest for some mods starting off? This is my first sport atv, any tips and help would be great. thanks!

here's a pic of it:

full system pipe & intake is a must. it really wakes the bike up.

First I would suggest new tires, then go slip on exhaust, jet kit, and K&N airfilter, you could do all that for around $300 + tires and you will definately feel a difference.

TIRES. those tires look terrible lol. this is not a utility. give that thing some razrs, holeshots, or klaws.

Slip on exhaust, dont really need the full system on a stock motor. Definitly new air filter and rejet. There are some threads on here for free mods, remove choke, holes in air box or remove lid, take head pipe off and grind down welds and there are some others. Get some 450R shocks and have revalved or get some aftermarket shocks. The suspension is by far the worst of maybe any quad on the market! Good luck and enjoy!

yeah it has bear claws on the rear and then holeshots in the front right now..but I do plan on buying new tires..the picture is horrible quality and doesn't do the quad justice.

thanks for all the advice so far. I will look into it.

Slip on pipe, Uni Filter with outerwears, no airbox lid, re-jet, 450r carb, 450r shocks, and a curtis sparks timing advance key. That will run you a tad over $500 for all of that unless you happen to find some insane deals. After that you can start getting into cams and boring and that stuff.

upgrade the suspension befote any performance mods...the power the stock motor puts out is more than the stock suspension can handle...

I agree, first get some smaller rear tires, then suspension all the way
