I was helping rebuild/reassemble a clutch for a buddy today.

He did the works!

Hinson clutch cushions - Vortex Basket - Hinson inner hub - '89 Update kit - Barnett Springs & Plates.

So....when it came time to install the Clutch Drive Nut.....we torqued it to 45lbs (range in manual was 40-47) and it rotated the lockwasher & bent the locking tab that sit's in one of the bosses in the inner hub.

1 down......

So we removed the nut and tried another one.

We put a dab of oil on the washer to allow the nut to spin.

Torqued it to 35.....seemed ok.

Torqued to 40...it rotated and bent the tab again....

Tapped the tang down and torqued to 45.....

I've NEVER in the 15 years of doing this MANY times....seen this happen.

It was an OEM Honda part (90445-KAE-000)the metal seems really SOFT.

Has anyone else noticed this too ?

I've had it happen once in while, but some assembly lube or oil usually does the trick. Maybe it's because of the aftermarket center hub.
