Friend asked me the other day, whats the mpg for the ex. I have no clue, do these things actually get anything decent, tried looking online and no dice.

I usually can get about 8 hours of total hard trail riding out of a full to the brim tank.

I can run a tank topped off out before i'm done with the days riding mind you thats 6 or 7 hours of various riding. If I were going down the highway or a road lugging in 5th barely using the gas i'm sure you could go at least 10 hours. In miles I dont really know how many miles I ride in a day. Need someone with GPS to ride like most do sometimes crusing and sometimes racing until the tank runs out and see how many miles that would be. Mods would affect the MPG too. If my quad was stock I could go 6 hours and still have a little gas for the next ride

Yea Im sure mods like exhaust, timing advancement, etc make mpg worse.

I think that perhaps we would get 25mpg probably based on our two experiences.

i used to get an easy 40 mpg if I rode good but now it is about 30-35 with the 416. I havent rode on trails enough to really check it out that I remember. I know using premium I get alot better mileage even with the stock motor. I get better mileage with me cbr600f4 too with premium instead of just regular. steve

i went riding with powermadd400ex when his 400 was still stock and we ran out of gas at the same time, and we rode for about 5 or 6 hours of hard riding. BUt needless to say, 400's guzzle gas.

Compared to my Polaris 4x4 two stroke 400, my EX gets fantastic mileage

and compared to any other brand but honda. Even some of the old foremans and such that were in 4 wheel all the time. My buddy gets about 20 mpg if he is lucky. steve

if you think the ex is bad never switch to a 450r. my 450r goes througha tank twice as quick as my ex ever did.

Which 450?

I figured it out on my old 400ex, 416 10.8:1, hotcam stg 2, big gun full exhaust, k&n, no airbox lid... I believe it was upper 20's almost 30 mpg. This was normal hard trail riding also.

Which 450?

my brothers 2004 450R gets twice the gas milage on a tank than my 400 and so does my cousin's yfz. what all is done to your 450?

My brother's is stock except for a K&N. He's savin up for a HRC kit and a slip-on. But his gets WAY better milage than my 400. Mine might do a little better since i'm putting a 11:1 piston in it. I usually have to fill it up every-other day:p

Last summer we were just cruising some gravel country roads one Sunday afternoon and my friend with a Honda Rancher started his trip odometer before we left. According to his quad we did 70 miles that day of just easy riding. I had my tank filled before we left and I had to switch over to reserve about 2 miles from his house. I think we were getting some pretty good MPG's that day because we weren't riding hard or anything.

I do, when you ride in the middle of no freaking place you need to know how many miles you can go. If you run out it is a long walk back unless you are coming to get me. Steve
