View Full Version : Do flywheels go bad?

Right now my 05 doesn't have any spark. I tested the stator and it failed. I changed it out with one from an 04. I started the 04, so I know the stator worked. Put it in the 05 and it still tests bad.
Can the fywheel's magnetism get weak causing no spark?

The flywheel is just a chunk of metal. The magnets are on the stator.

I don't know what kind of bikes you work on but,
the stator is coils of wire, and the flywheel (rotor) is the magnet.

Check the ign. coil!

Could have a bad ground somewhere!

No more posting as soon as I wake up -_-
Your right, flywheel wouldn't exactly be of any use to the stator if it wasn't magnetic. lol

take a screw driver and see if it sticks to the flywheel when you put it on the inside of the flywheel.

The flywheel is still magnetic, but I'm getting a weak signal from each side of the stator. I've swapped the stator, CDI, and coil from the good bike and still no spark. I've cleaned the ground at the coil and the motor to frame. I've unplugged the killswitch.
All that's left is the wiring harness, rectifier, flywheel, and the condensor.
Only problem, I'm testing right at the stator plug, so that eliminate's the harness, condensor, rectifier.

mines doing the same thing... over night it just lost spark... i havint figured it out yet.. i was gonna buy a new stator but dno if thts the full problem yet and how did u test the stator on a kick i would like too kno...

Try testing the peak voltage on the pick up module. (pulse generator) 0.7 volts minimum. If thats fine test ur ignition coil primary peak voltage 100 volts minimum.

Figured it out. I was lossing the gound somewhere between the stator bolts and the engine motor. Took a wire wheel to all the bolts and now it's good to go.

wht could it be if it just loses spark overnight??

Rust!!! Loose ground!!

Glad you figured it out, def. sounded like a bad ground.
