I know that the 04/05 450r rear shock is about 3/4" shorter than the 06+ models. I was wondering if a 04/05 shock would bolt up on a 06+ model and work as well as factory and offer a lower ride height. I found a rear shock for cheap and was wondering if anyone has done this or just some opinions/suggestions on the matter. Thanks!

length of swingarm and the links are different, so the leverage ratios are different as well so the 05 shock wont work properly

the leverage ratios and everything will throw it out of wack. I tried it before and the piggyback on the 04/05 shock is offset to the right more than the 06+. This caused the nipple for filling the nitogen to hit the corner of the motor and snap off... caused all kinds of damage to the shock. Get the right shock for the right bike.

It'll only work if you get an 05 swinger to go w/ the shock. If you want to lower your ride height try a gtt linkage.

Thanks for the info, i kind of figured that it would throw everything out of whack or mess something up. I'll just have to hold off til i can afford to get the rear shock redone and a new linkage.

That won't work because of the reservoir hitting the motor. You can put an 06+ rear end on an 04/05, but you can't go the other way.
