I am contemplating whether or not to get an OEM exhaust for my 86 R and was wondering if anyone could give me some insight as to how it performs. I am not a racer and only ride my R on trails or gravel roads. I assume the OEM exhaust would suit my style of riding because it isn't really a "performance" pipe. Also, in what areas does the stock pipe perform best? Bottom? Mid? Top? All around? Any help here would be awesome. Thanks.

Stock pipe with an aftermarket silencer will work good for average trail riding. It pulls very smooth from bottom to top.

dont get a stocker. you could find a nice pipe for cheap. and plus the stock pipe looks like h elll if you ask me. i recently bought a dyno port for 60 shipped. theres deals out there you just need to wait. if you ride trails get a fmf fatty, there usually cheap, better on the bottom end, and there a chrome color. i hope this helps.

Actually that is exactly what I am torn between: the stock pipe and the Fatty. The only reason I even am considering the stock pipe is because the rest of the bike is pretty much stock, so I thought I would kind of add the stock look to it while getting the right pipe at the same time.

I'm with Rich250rracer on this one...the stock pipe is not bad at all if you're looking for smooth power and are not worried about peak HP. Great for woods riding on a relatively stock motor! The stock silencer is really heavy and restrictive, so consider an aftermarket one.

I'm liking the sound of the stock exhaust more and more. I am eyeballing a set on ebay right now that aren't in too bad of shape, but I feel the price is a little steep. What do you guys think:

silencer

The silencer looks pretty banged up, but if I were to spray paint them black, how would that hold up to the heat?

As mentioned before, Get an aftermarket silencer.
That stock silencer is an anchor!

I would have to double check but I should have a stock pipe and silencer off mine. Bought it new in 86. I would sell you both for 125 if you pay for the ride. Let me know if you are interested.

If it was me, that stock pipe for $125 is a little steep. You can get a nice "Fatty" for that price. IMO those FMF's aren't that bad.

if your gonna get a stock i would not pay more than 50 bucks shipped to your door for it. Trust me you will always want more power. :P you can find deals. What do you have on your quad right now? and what every you do DONT get a stock silencer. They blow. heavy. restrictive. aftermarkets are way better and you can find some very cheap. if your gonna spend over 200 bucks on a stock exhaust i think your dumb. (no offence) but you can get aftermarkeys for less than that. i recently sold my lrd pipe for 80 bucks.

Right now I have a Paul Turner TRX 6 pipe with a Pro Circuit silencer that came with the quad when I bought it. I don't really care for either, so I just took them off until I find something better. The quad is all original exept for the plastics and handlebars, so the stock pipe would be a great addition to it's stock look, I think. So does the stock silencer inhibit performance in any way, or is it just ridiculously large and hideous to look at?
