Okay so I have 4 different options for a CDI/ignition for an '04 450R..

CRF Ignition


I know the CRF was a very popular choice and had a lot of advantages, but is also very expensive, required all the parts.

I am mostly just looking to increase the rev limit on it, and a little bit increased spark... I know the newer models you can do the green wire mod, or whatever to add 1000 RPMS or something..

Anyone have experience with the above listed.

I am leaning towards the Rick's because it is cost effective, the other 2 besides the CRF choice are similarly priced.

Of the three you listed to only ones worth it is the Dyna or CRF. The other two are cheap Pro-Com boxes. The only thing they are good for are losing HP and possibly damaging your motor. Another option is the Vortex CDI. It is about the same price as the Dyna though. In my opinion to much money to spend for an extra 1000 RPM's.

I have a vortex for the 04-05 that I am looking to sell if your interested. It is a very good ignition, When I bought my 06 I couldnt use this one so I got a new one.

They've all been dyno proven to produce less power than the stock box. The only one that made more was a programmable dyna w/ a custom curve on a highly modded motor.
What mods do you have done? Are you going to be producing power past 9800?

Dyna Programable is the only way to go. Call up some of the larger enginbuilders (CT, Sparks, ETC) and they can even send you one with custom maps for a build similar to yours. Even better if you can get it on a dyno and have your on map made.
