The stock shocks I have now have way to much rebound and I think it may be one reason why I take it slower on turns. I know the 450r shock will fit, but what other ones will work?

elkas works pep axis, to name a few off hand I would get elks or axis if I was going to get some but for a cheaper decent set works would be ok. steve

depends really on how much money you want to spend. all the big name company's (elka, fox, axis) make socks that will fit. but you will spend big money for those.....if you are just looking to upgrade your stock shocks i would go with 450r. for the money you cant beat them. if you are for a complete front end system then i would keep an eye on ebay and you might get lucky. otherwise shop around and try to get the best deal possible. i have spent a small fortune on front suspension and wish i would have taken my time and shopped for a deal.

Yes YZF shocks fit. I have a set on my 400. You have to grind the top eyes just a little. It is cheaper than new aftermarkets even with a revalve. I did that route and I am completely happy.

Since you are asking for opinions, here's mine. 450R shocks are a good bang for the buck, but aren't designed for your bike. You'll end up spending probably at least $250 on them. If you shop around, you'll undoubtedly find good deals on 400ex specific shocks. I waited, and found the most pimp set of elite quad rate long travel Elka's for $450 off Ebay. I see Elka's on ebay all the time for $400.
Wait, and buy aftermarket shocks, not 450R shocks.

Does anyone here run HLS shocks? I plan on looking into these more when I get a little coin put together. I hear they're nice, but cost less than Elka, Axis, Fox, etc.
