Might be this monitor but it seems grainy or a little blurry for some reason..

I think it has too much "blues"! If that makes any sense. I'm noone to say........your pics are always top notch! Wish I had half the skills you have!

It seems brighter than all of your other pictures, could just be me though.

Interesting.....on my calibrated laptop the first pic looks pretty solid. On my big flatscreen its appears just a tad dark but decent color and fairly sharp(the sand is all over the nose of teh quad so maybe thats why Josh see's it as blurry)

How about this one

More concerned with color and lightness/darkeness. These are raw files converted to jpeg then resized so no sharpening as been added yet. I did check the 100% image and its plenty sharp.

Sorry PAPPY....like I said I'm not judging at all on your photgraphic prowess! The second one you posted looks great colorwise!

Not enough color to really tell in the mud pit pic.

LOL...no offense taken here:p Im just about ready to pull my hair out if I cant get my main monitor squared away. Im just pulling some pics that have alot of range in them and seeing if they look ok to others....ive been staring at this damn monitor for 3 hours so my eyes are sore. Figured I would enlist some comments and take a break:p

I can see that also Pappy! Maybe its a contrast of different colors I was trying to say? I dont know? Anyway...this monitor is pretty sharp. If you've been staring at your monitor that long then take a break. Relax and then mess with it some more!

I did hear today that I am in a picture you took of the Heartland Challenge, in ATV Scene I believe???

isnt this kinda like asking a the home audience to compare the resolution on brand X television to the resolution on brand Y television, while watching at home on their brand Z televisions?

but anyway, on my monitor, the colors are brilliant and the pics are crisp(as many of your pics are).

edit: looking closer, IMO the first is the best.

Yes and no. 100% calibrated it shows a darker overall image here and sometimes that translates to the final web image depending on how the hosting company manipulates (distorts) the image. In teh end, the folks here have to look at them once posted so some feedback on things is helpfull. I just set a profile up for web images that should keep the light a tad higher then what I end with here(that will make the magazine guys happy because typically an image that appears a tad dark on the screen will print well) I picked these shots because they offered a broad range of things and wanted to see if it carried over to everyone on an average.

I think the are good. The second to last seems dark at first till you actually look at it. Then you can see all the detail in it. Overall the color and contrast is really good.

I hate using my laptop for photos..the colors are so much dif. than on say ...a tube style I have at home. Yet my lap is what I use the most.
What I cant figure out is exactly what degree or angle should the screen be on the lap top to be correct because there is too much variation on light and darkness to the photo.Pappy, Any ideas?
I hope that made sense.:p lol

I know just about all my photos appear to have too much contrast if I adjust from lap.

No one I know of recommends using a laptop for edit work. I did calibrate my new laptop and its awesome, but I still wouldnt use it for serious work.

Im pretty satisfied now....everything is where it should be on this end.

laptops depend on the laptop screen. I have a 1280 resolution on my HP notebook and its a 14.1" screen and it displays the best picture i have seen on a computer/notebook and I am used to staring at MAC cinema displays at school.l

Laptops generally have a weaker video card than most desktops as well. I got the highest one available for my XPS and it's only 256mb, I know Mac's offer up to 512mb on their laptops.

Not sure what kind of computer setup your running, but what monitor did you end up going with??

03-27-2009, 09:45 PM
were those taken in Florida? pictures look good to me

Pappy
03-27-2009, 09:46 PM
XCAdam....its just a Gateway 24 inch

Sjorge- you can upgrade the laptop screens and video card, Harlen has one thats insane but it was almost as much as my entire computer was (his upgrades) I know Tina and the majority are not using such equipment and thats why I made the statement. I will add that video is alot different then the photography side of things....sometimes its even more critical.

I have it all calibrated again...glad to be back in teh land of the living:p

Harlen picked my laptop out for me and brought it to one of the worcs rounds last season-its a Dell Inspiron 6000. I stored alot of stuff on it last season ,but I use my home computer for most of my home race photos.

I can garuntee its not the same screen and software he has:p I am calibrating his equipment as soon as we can get some downtime.

My new laptop is a HP with 17 inch screen with upgraded video card and its awesome, but I still wouldnt edit on it!

I know that.I dont know what one he has now , I dont know what he uses.I know the one he had last year was different than mine.
I just stated that he picked mine out and what model it was.
He told me it was a good media laptop for a good price.

He is still running a Dell....and if his wife finds out how much he paid for it he is in big trouble:devil: Id say my new laptop is on par with his now, especially after calibration. Next trip he has out west and if youw ill be there, i will send along the stuff needed for him to calibrate your laptop....you will be pleasantly surprised:p
