FCR mixture screw

I have had a couple guys tell me how to set my mixture screw, but I've never had it explained to me exactly what this does though. I know, stupid right? I'd just like to really know how all this works. Thanks.

It controls how much fuel is let in by the idle circuit, and so does the pilot or (slow) jet.

The perfect stoichiometric number would be 14.7 parts air to 1 part fuel.
