i have one about in the same shape....got this far in about 2 hours. doing a 13 to 1 426, stage 3 cam, 450r carb, and houser a-arms with fox shocks

Yes get the 450 carb! I have a "408" and can tie a 440 in a drag. I beat him on the start everytime he'll catch me at 30-40 yards. I'll take the snappy bottom end over top end speed any day. My motor guy ported it well for more airflow with the bigger carb. More air more power, has shown to beat displacement. Now do both !:D

I really would like a 450r carb, but i cannot afford one, $100 then i have to work with the adapters and relocate hoses and choke

no adapters needed.....i took the choke lever off mine never need to use it. all you need is the carb, throttle cable off the 450, and the fuel line off the 450. with a little dremel work the carb fits perfect.

Agreed, you don't need one, but without an adapter you will have to re-locate the air box by moving it forward. IMO having the adapter just makes it easier.
