View Full Version : Swingarm plate- anyone make one yet?

I am still looking for a swingarm plate to replace the cheap tubing that came on my son's 90.
I don't have the skills to fabricate and may just end up taking the entire quad to a weld shop to have something fabricated.
Has anyone found a manufacturer yet? Will the Predator 90 plates work?

Thanks.

I cut 3 of the 4 mounts off and made my own tabs raising it about an inch. Welded in inch wide 1/8" thick stock to make it solid. Also had to widen it about a half inch to get it raised. Holding up pretty good so far. If I have to pull it off again I will wrap the bottom of the rails with a cut up stock yamaha skid I have.

Yep. I just had one made yesterday, picked it up this morning.
$100. Looks like something Pro Armour would have made.
1/4" thick aluminum- very heavy duty.

We shall see how it holds up this weekend.

Funny thing is they said the tubular steel would have held up much better had it been solid and not hollowed.

I think they are all hollow even the big quads. They are just thicker walled. The outlaw tube is thin. I can see why it crushes. I though about buying a blaster alum skid and modifing it to fit. I decided against it since I would have money into it plus still my time. Do you know how much ground clearance you got out of it yet. The stock one is a joke though. Mine was only on with 3 bolts and an inch from the chain/drum.

I'll take a picture of it this weekend and post. Don't know why I didn't do that yet?

I had them keep it about an inch away from the drum and sprocket. that way I can get my hand in there to pull the mud out.

It is pretty heavy duty. Can't wait to see how it holds up to my son bashing it over the rocks.

Yea that looks like it will hold up. The way its rolled should keep the sides from bending up which is another reason I didn't use a blaster skid.

Not sure I like the larger aluminum one it hangs down FAR the stock one hangs up easy enough as it is.

The first photo's are hard to tell but look to increase ground clearance but does it leave the axle open to take a hit front a rock? and is this even a concern?

He hasn't had any problems yet with it. I think it actually works better since it is a plate and not tubular. The plate seems to glide better over rocks. Tubular guards tend to hang up more on rocks.
The plate goes far forward enough that there is no way for the axle, sprocket, drum to hit anything. Any obstacles would slide down the swingarm and then hit the plate causing the rear end to lift and go over prior to anything rearward hitting.

I also try to instruct my son on positioning his wheels over the rocks or if he must straddle to use his thumb throttle to blip the rear end over an obstacle.

I did raise mine almost an inch. Only the paint was worn off when I modified mine. I modified it because it was way low and only held on by 3 bolts. Now it has deep scratches and dents in the tubes. Not a single scratch on the carrier still and have had I beleive 2 XC races and 2 rides outside of the yard on it since the pictures up there. I'm not too worried about a rock hitting the carrier. They are usaully pretty thick in the center and it would only just scratch or nick it.

Added some more bracing and fixed some dents the other day. Should be done now. There is abut 4 1/2 inches of clearance on the sides and 5 3/4 in the center. 2 more XC races and a trail ride with no marks or even paint ware on the carrier.

I'm not for sure, but I think the stock skid bottom was level w/ no rake. The 4 1/2" is only at rear tube. The front of the skid is over an inch higher. Forgot I put some all thread in the main tubes so they shouldn't dent.
