View Full Version : 450r ran outta oil

its an 05 450r not mine, its my buddies brother and it ran about a mile with no oil, it locked up, we let it cool put oil in it and it fired right up and idled, then we gave it a quick rev after about 5 min of idleing and it started to struggle to run, the cam and stuff are good, i think the cylinder is warped or the crank and bearings are bad, i need some more suggestions on your guys opinion also it started making a really bad ticking and clanking noise so we shut it down and parked it

Tear it down. Your cylinder is more than likely scuffed to hell and piston/rings are shot. I'm surprised it started back up.

Did it at least have oil in the transmission side?

yes there was oil in the tranny, i thought the oils came together from the motor and tranny though

how did this happen there is a sight glass right on the side of the engine cylinder wont be warped but crank is definately screwed dont cheap out on any parts though or your just asking for trouble

They are kept seperate in the engine.
Good to hear it had oil in the right side at least. Will save you a few hundred in bearings.
