Cost to make my 400 a 440?

I have searched on this topic and i couldnt find anything. What do you think a relative price to get a 440 kit put in my 400 would be? Also, what other parts would i need to use with the 440? Or would a 416 be just as good? Please help me out guys, i am trying to figure out what to do.

why do you really think you need to go with the 440. you may want to think about reliability. its all up to you though. personally i like to go riding and not have to worry if im going to make it back to the truck. ive just heard to many reliability problems with 440. i did hear that the 416 is good. just my 2 cents like everyone elses

Well, i have been thinking about a 416, and also i have heard the probs with a 440 so thats why i am thinking 416 now that i think about it...how reliable compaired to stock and 440 would the 416 be?? and if i took my own engine apart how much would it cost to have the machine shop do it?

the 416 will be cheeper because you only need to have the cylinder bored not resleeved. also it will rev faster because of the less weight in the piston.

Go for the 425.

If your 440 is done right you won't really lose reliabilty. Thats what I heard but I dunno:confused: :huh

Hey could you guys link me to the post of the 440 problems? I haven't heard of any 440 problems.:huh I have had mine for about 2 yrs. and I ride it very hard.

Anyways it will cost you around 1k to buid a nice 416 or 440.
$160 Cam
$250 Hardened rockers
$250 porting
$250 Valve job
$150 piston
$80 Timing chain
Doing the work yourself...$free

I just guessed on all them prices, so don't quote me. But they should be pretty close and can atleast give you an idea.

mine blew the whole top end off.cost me $2200 to get it redone. I had to get a new head ($500) and get it resleaved because wiesco didn't make a bigger piston (that way i would had to just bore it out a little) Still don't know why it went, the engine builder said he did about 200 of them and hasn't heard anything(also I was the 1st one he built) I think the only thing is that the timing chain jumped and gernaded my engine. I only ride it about 4-6 times a year and it is very well maintained. Now I'm still scared it might blow up again so I don't ride it too hard. Hey its only money rite???

What’s the bore size on the 416 and 425? Also who makes the lightest piston? I’m looking for quick revving.

ross is 20 grams lighter than je, so i hear and they have a lighter wristpin

save yourself some money and get a hotcam, no rockers needed, springs needed if going to a rev box

the rods on a 400ex are one of the weakest components ...i snapped mine on my 440 kit so i had to buy new cases and totally re-do my motor.....but now my 465 runs alllll day long....does get a little hot but hey what can i say 92mm and 13:1 comp is what i have....
