What are you or have you paid for machine/ assembly. I am talking to a local place called muffs Motorsports. I talked to them about building my 416 with a hot cam. Complete assembly and installation in bike jetted and broken in. I was told $75 for machine work $125 for install/ labor. Is it just me or does $200 seem realllyyy cheap or is it just me coming from the car world???

$75 is pretty standard for a simple bore. $125 is cheap for teardown/assembly labor, IMO, but the 400ex is pretty basic, and a good mechanic could have it together quickly. I'm assuming that quote is not including parts. It sounds like a pretty good deal.

I would be supplying all the parts.

best is to do it yourself

$125 is about right for building a topend and cam install. but if that includes jetting and break in than that is a good deal. i charge 200 for top end build with jetting, break in, and oil change, plus parts

That depends on who you're talking about. Some people are naturally mechanically inclined, and some people should never, ever be allowed to touch a toolbox. I'm an aircraft mechanic with a lot of other types of mechanical experience, but for that price, I'd probably have someone else do the work for me. You have to account for what your time is worth, and how long it would take to run stuff around for machine work, buy shop supplies, etc. I say send it to Muff, and ask him to throw a set of HD studs in while he's at it so you don't have to take it back apart.
