I sold my built 400ex a few weeks ago and went to a local motor sports dealer and looked at the 09 ds 450 xc quad i really liked it.
how it felt how it sat the extra's that were already on it but was almost 9 grand

then this saturaday i went and rode a 08 ds 450 had flex bars
( were have i been i wanna order a pair if i have a quad or not) lone star steering stem hmf pipe fmf pro grammer
guy was really nice quad seemed great rode it in a feild 1st to 4th in no time instant throttle responce fast braking and didn't pop a wheelie at all motor sounded good

$5,000

which is better
I plan to race cross county all across the midwest come 2010 season i've already got another 400 for this season

can you lower the ride height of the 09 ds xc's or the 08's felt like i was riding real high which on my 400ex's i ran real low the lower i was the faster i was on lap times

any imput would be great

a 400 vs 450 not even close.. on a stock ds suspencion its the best .. remenber fuel injection and better shocks will be less rider fatige.. there is a few things to worry about .. like limp mode but at the same time its ok.. cluch .. but its motor last longer than the other 450s its also good on gas.. you can go with a stock ds and win many races .. try that on bone stock honda yfz kfx..
sure ktm its good out the box if you can buy it .. or have parts..
one thing i do know its the ds its not king of holeshots and thats a big deal. i do mx have a trx 450 yfz 450 a ds .. and rode all 450s i like the ltr 450 for its good out the box .. kfx its a piece of junk too stiff.. remember its all rider and set up..

i'm set on a ds now
i like the fi altec frame inverted caplier's hollow rear axle suspention

$ wise i'm looking at the 08 with alot of good mods not internal work done for 5 grand

or a new 09 xc for 9 grand

i'm doing woods racing so i can't decide on the 2

I'd see if the 08 has all the updates done first before you make a decision.

I would look into an new 08 ds 450x. They are selling cheap. I picked mine up for $7,000 OTD including registration and taxes.

If you get it new it will be under warranty and you can get the work done. Just ask if they will perfdorm the TSB on the Clutch.

I take it you understand there have been recalls and Service Bulletins on the 08'

$5000 sounds like a great price.
Questions to ask are...

What shape is it in? Has it been raced or Beat on?
Have they had the recalls down? Have they had the clutch fixed? Why are they selling it?

I do not know seat heights. Call the Dealer or look it up online.

What upgrades are you talking about? The recalls are Free and the Clutch Service Bulletin may cost ya $$$. Read the recall and clutch threads and you will see what people are experiencing.

The DS 450 is a NEW bike and they are working out the kinks.

Oh yeah if the DS 450 for $5000 smelled "HOT" when you turn it off, Then I would NOT buy it.

You can get a brand new ds450 for $6000

yea after i killed it the second time it smelled hot but still went fine
i your option which would be better since i can get them within $400 of each other or less 08 can-am or 08 ktm 525xc with similar mods
