Ok well i figure its time to change my timing chain. I can hear a ticking noise.. From what I hear, I should use a honda crf 450 timing chain. Is this right? Then does the year matter? And would I need to replace the timing chain guide? Thank you.

not sure on the year but the 450 is the one you can use. it would not hurt to do the guides too since it is a much wider chain and may catch the grooves from the old ones. good luck, steve

the year doesn't matter. i always ask for a 2004 CRF 450r timing chain...

the chain is the same length as a 400ex chain just beefier.

your chain guide should be fine but i would get a new cam chain tensioner

Thank you.

Can the chain tensioner be oem? Or what should I go with? And ill look into getting new guides and if they are cheep enough why not..

the tensioner is going to be the stock one for your 400ex.

on servicehonda.com the tensioner is $51.27, the rear cam chain guide is $51.09 and the front cam chain guide is $23.85

I must say its amazing how every thing adds up. I just got a hot cam stg 1, wiseco light weight piston 11:1, full top end gasket kit. Then now I need a side case gasket. Its all adding up like crazy lol. Thought, ya got 2 pay to play :D. Thank you
