that list is pretty much the way i see it, it probably goes by a popular vote among a group of racers or selected people would be my guess

I think B ballance should have been #1 or #2.

Timmy and JJ and balance should have been the top 3....not in that order though.

Thanks matt:

I was happy to hear that I had made the list, until I heard some of the riders that are in front of me, that I have beat in every disciplin from XC to TT.

But you know what I'm honored to make the list, and now I will try to make it about 60 spots further up for the 2003 edition

Where is Joel Hetrick?:huh He's not even on the list, both of his cousins are and he is faster than that. He won 70cc Mod. class in MX Nationals this year.:D

Was Barry Hawk on there!!!

01TRX300EX
12-29-2002, 03:44 PM
I dont think Barry Hawk was on there, they were probably doing current racers because a lot of the people that raced back in the day werent on there (Gary Denton, Jimmy White,etc.). I agree with some of the list but in the beginning it kinda seems like they started in on MX racers then realized that they had to include XC racers also.

Ryan
12-29-2002, 07:44 PM
They should have never done that. Bill Balance should have been # 3 or something. Those things doesn't mean anything.

Johnny, You should have been higher then that. What are your goals for next season. Going after Ballance :D Good luck

McGrath is out. He will be retiring. It is not 100% certain until the Anahiem SX, but he has said he has no plans for riding the 2003 season. I was really hoping he would, cause I wanted to see that KTM kick some Honda @$$. McGrath said that the KTM was the fastest bike he has ever ridden, and I believe it whole-heartedly. I know the SX125 completely OWNS the 125 class for 03.

MX26- Why would they be?

Im sure one of them will make it next year after going to all the Nationals, but until then they wont be noticed.

12-30-2002, 11:50 AM
the reason bill balance isnt number one is because he is not as fast as the mx guys. the top mx guys can run up front at a gncc if they want to, the gncc guys dont at an mx race. for instance kory ellis and jeremiah jones have raced gncc b4 and ran up front. MX racing just takes more talent thats why those guys are in the top spots.

i think i heard that bill balance tried to qualify for a gnc mx race once...does anyone know if this is true and what place he finished?

MrP
12-30-2002, 01:15 PM
Bill Balance rode at Lorreta Lynn's Last year and qualified easily and then he finished 11th overall.

Negative....the top MX pro's don't stand a chance racing against the top GNCC pro's. Go race a GNC and a GNCC and tell me which one of them is for sissy's. GNCC racing is harder than MX without a doubt..:blah

Most top MX racers that have went to a GNCC don't finish or place way back,,reason being,,they wreck and tear stuff up,,because there not use to that type of racing. I've spoke with Dana creech before about XC racing and how hard it is,,his response was..."you don't see me out there,,I know it's hard as he11"

"10 minute moto or 2+ hour race,,which do you think is gonna take it's toll on ya the worst???"

in that ten minute moto they both expend the same amount of energy, just quicker. so its probably the same. but that isnt even the point. the heading is not what racing takes the toll on u most its who is the fastest rider. im sure the mx racers are in way better shape. im not saying gncc racing isnt as good im saying the racers in the gncc's aren't as good. race an mx and then cry to me.

IMO...both cross country and MX require skill and training and dedication....to run up front at either is an acomplishment!!

There is a reason Balance is #1 GNCC....he trains cross country
Tim Farr #1 MX, #2 TT...he trains for those events
Shane Hitt #1 TT.....concentration TT and MX

Everybody has their preference, and all the disciplines of offroad recreation is tough to get to the top....whether it be bikes or quads, MX or XC, TT or Hillclimbs, Sanddrags or flat track. etc.

I ride XC and I practice A LOT and feel I am well prepared to go the 2 - 2.5 hours it requires, but here lately I have been riding some MX and let me tell you 5 laps at a full on sprint pumps you up and beats the heck out of ya.

Just as the top XC pro riders dont stand a chance to the top mx pro riders. I think they are all bad ***** no matter if it is MX or XC. But they choose the type of racing they do because thats what they like and what they are good at. If I could afford it, i would race every style of racing there is cause I like it all.

thank u for the name calling rica...that's real mature.

anyway, IMO if u took the top ten pro gnc mx guys and top ten gncc pro guys and had them all race an mx race, then the next day a xc race, the gnc mx riders would place better overall.

Pappy
12-30-2002, 04:16 PM

Is that the track in Leechfield? Or was it Lexington? I can't remember. I've heard alot about that track. Just by looking at pics, It looks like a MX track wrapped inside a golf course!! I'd like to get more info. on this track.. A website maybe? From the video I've seen of it, the jumps are pretty small.

Yes obviously none of you guys have been down to Bill's place and seen his MX track. Jerimiah rides there with him all of the time. He has a huge downhill triple that Jerimiah wouldnt try till Bill did it. I have ridden with Bill personally not just at the races, you cant even compare him to anything. He is so crazy fast you wouldnt believe it. Brad Page was there to and it was obvious how much better Bill was. Brad is still a total bad *****. I would say that if Bill concentrated on MX instead of XC he would be just as good as the top guys. But he is an XC racer not an MX. Both are tough in their own ways. I dont see how Dirtwheels can rank these top 15 riders. That is just a story for them to talk about, that magazine is a joke in the first place. They clame that the 400EX is not as good as a Raptor for racing? How can they say that when there are no raptors at the track. And on the comment on the MX guys doinf well at GNCC? Kory Ellis sure sucked it up in GNCC racing. Jerimiah does pretty good because he is an awesome rider all around like Bill.

Look at that. Matt was in the team that got 2nd. He's one of the youngest pro's and got 11th at the age of 19. And still they put him way back there? Hmmm Now i can see why i love dirtwheels!

wow, good topic, what i see is a bunch of mx riders out west did the list so they are going to protect their own. funny how gncc has had national tv coverage the last 2 years(maybe longer) and i haven't seen a single mx national on the boob tube... hummm
i think bill should of been either #1 or # 2. but yokley being #9. he's the only one i see that can challenge bill. i did read where doug gust was going to try some gncc races this year. sounds interesting...

01TRX300EX
12-31-2002, 07:23 AM
I think Yokely should have been higher in the list since he does more than just GNCC, he also participates in the Baja races, and does well in them, Eichner should have been higher also since he is also a good all around rider. As far as the XC vs MX comments, I ride both and I feel that MX takes a lot out of you quickly, while XC takes a lot out of you over a longer period of time. But as for which one is harder, thats a hard one, MX you have to time the jumps just right, while XC you have to watch for tree's that like to run out in front of you.

Extremeracer167
12-31-2002, 11:36 AM
to anyone that sais XC doesnt wear u out as fast case your not going at an all out sprint is a bunch of crap! The slower guys dont go at an all out sprint. But when u move up to A and pro classes, u HAVE to go full blast the WHOLE RACE! I dont know about you guys, and i know Rick Cecco was in the same class as me, u can ask him. TO run with guys like Brad Macri and Matt Foutch and i know i couldnt the whole race. But u better be running balls out the ENTIRE race.

12-31-2002, 12:02 PM
i think we have a few people basing judgment with only racing MX and never attmepting a XC...big hill climbs skeer some people more than others..:o

Extremeracer167
12-31-2002, 12:08 PM
Yes i agree Rico. I have raced both. But ive never raced a GNC, just a few locals. Sure it was tiring, but not like the GNCCs that im used to. The way i look at it, MX gets u winded. Where XC just completely beats u to a pulp. What would be eaiser to you. The 200meter sprint or a 26 mile race? I garuntee most ppl would choose the 200 meter sprint

XC and MX are both difficult and not one is more difficult then the other. Some people who have tried both think XC is more difficult and some people its the other way around. I'd say XC by a long shot, 2 hours of just riding is hard and image racing for that amout of time. Racing MX with all the jumps, whoops ect racing at top notch will really ware your arse out for sure. I would love to do both of them but I can't even afford MX  .

(Wes Miller) "If Ballance ran in the GNC's he would place in the top 5, he is one of the best or without a doubt the best rider out there."

If Tim Farr or one of the other top MX guys did some GNCC racing then they would probably still be up with Balance.

And yeah, Lets wait untill the ATV Olympics! :D
I think it shouldn't be judged by what type of racing they do but just how good of a rider they are.

Just my 3 cents :huh

I heard there was a bunch a chitty rider's at the AYV Olympics GNCC race, but Jerry Jones did the MX and whooped some tail there son....

Also Sun I did my 1st MX track, and lemme tell you,I can last a 2hr XC race, but I was wore out after about 1hr or less of ridin MX..MX is more physical, actually the records show MX is the MOST Physical Sport out there, its above soccer and all..

Well anyways, after my time at the MX tarck,I def need Motor work and some a-arms and all, cause its fun,but the ole 400 didn't have enough balls to clear the 60ft step-up...4th Pinned w/ 20in'ers didn't cut it..oh well next time...

Also imet a dude named like Joseph St.John or something,he said he races 250A?
