Newbie here.... A few questions

Hey all,

Not new to the sport, I just took a few years off, lol... I have had an LT 80 for my girl for a couple years, but just recently bought an 07 400ex for myself.

I will not be racing it, just mainly fast rail riding, and a few trips to our local 1/8th mile dragstrip.

Recently changed the oil and filter to synthetic.

I cannot wait to start the mods, and one of the first things I want is the pipe. But, I want a quiet one. No sense in pissing off the neighbors.

Who makes the quietest pipe out there??

Any cheap, free mods to do??

Also, throw up your favorite links to aftermarket manufacturers, if you can.

the fmf Q is definatly the quietest.
but most pipe companys have a quiet core you can insert easily and lower the DBs quite a bit.

Remove the choke and airbox lid.

450r carb, 6+ degree key, suspension is your next best bet unless you want to put in a 416 with a cam to light it up. It should run nice with teh stuff listed though. Oh, and WELCOME to the site!!!!!! Steve

First off, welcome back to the sport. I would look into a FMF pipe, but remember quietest doesn't always give you the best power. Out of all the pipes i have used over the years i like HMF. But not the quietest by a long shot. Get rid of the airbox lid and replace the Junk factory air filter with a performance filter, i prefer a K&N.

450r front shocks, (alot cheaper than axis or elkas, and gt thunder will set them up to you weight for cheap) a performance filter, and a double shot of NOS, just shoot it into the air intake, you wont need mods it will go fast. just kidding of course. sparks key is great thow. $25 and it comes with the flywheel puller. (and a sticker, haha)

Thanks for the input guys! For now I will just be doing the maintenance items, then slowly equipping it the way I want.

I like the SParks advance key, that is cheap enough. The pipe will probably stay stock for time being. I am a big guy, 250 plus, so some suspension will be on the list.

The kid who had it must have been some sort of a trailblazer, as there is not a piece of plastic that ISN'T scratched!

Right now I am getting ready to head to the garage and pull the rear caliper apart and rebuild it. Must be an o-ring bad, it is squirting fluid out the emergency brake area.......

i wish i did.. i am looking into one of those helmet mount vid cams. my GF took one a few weeks ago at the drag strip but all she got was me purging the spray:rolleyes: i have a purge jet that shoots out of the key switch mount above the head lights....looks wicked but wastes alot of spray

I don't purge the Busa either. the line is so short, there is no sense in it unless you are just wanting to put on a show:D

thats pretty much why i plumbed a purge on the 500ex. nobody expects a 4-wheeler to stage at the tree and purge some spray:devil:
