from 04-06 they made 80+ changes and from 06 to 07-08 they did the oil mod for better oiling. My 06 runs great and I havent had a single problem.

what is the oil mod for the 04 and 05. and how do you install it and the cost?

Majority of the changes they made were moving a few bolts around here and there. The biggest thing they did over the years was the oil mod and rear shock. Everything else is pretty much the same and all parts are interchangeable other than the rear shock. The rear link is the only difference there I think.

If I were to buy another YFZ,I would get an 06-up simply for the ease of chain adjustment. The 04-05 was a pain! Althoug my 04 was faster,my 06 had more grunt in the woods. IMO,the oil mod isn't needed if you run good oil. Both my bikes went 2yrs on stock pistons.
