Ok I'm not really computer savvy, I can navigate my way around and I can deal with hardware for the most part, but software! AHHHHH!

SO I picked up a virus recently and dont know how, but I think I know the day I got it. Its nothing major, just keep getting this stupid screen popping me up telling me I'm infected and I should download some software.

It's called Spyware Protect 2009, and its annoying me! LOL. How do I get rid of this? I ran ad-aware (obviously not going to get it) and it did nothing, and I ran an outdated version of Mcafee (I refuse to pay for it) I'm usually pretty smart on the net and avoid dumb places to not have this happen.

Here's a screen shot of what I have happening ever 20 seconds or so....

Please help!

uninstall it in add/remove programs, and delete any folders in program files

run AVG (virus scanner, full version is free and it works as well as anything out there) and adaware

System restore it to a day before you think you got the virus.

It's not a trojan, so it should be fine after the restore is done.

You could also try Malwarebytes one of the best and it is free.

Thats the first thing I would do.

I run 3 free virus programs and they are awesome. I have gotten a few viruses and these programs have taken care of them everytime. Occasionally it takes 4 or 5 days but eventually its gone.
Avira Antivirus
SuperAnti Spyware
Malwarebytes

I use a program called STINGER, but you have to know what you are doing or you could delete something your computer needs to run.

I used this and it got rid of it, but now these programs have stupid pop ups once in a while, not nearly as bad as the spyware nonsense I had on there, but none the less...

I think I'm just going to system restore anyways.
